Top 5 all-time best Call of Duty maps, according to Reddit

Across the years Call of Duty developers have filled every entry in the series with maps for players to duke it out on. Some are immediately fan favorites while others have to age like fine wine before they can be appreciated. We've assembled the top 5 maps across Call of Duty's lifespan according to Reddit.

Top 5 Call of Duty maps according to Reddit

Fans across generations are growing up with certain Call of Duty games that affect their view on which maps are the best. For the aged veterans, many consider the golden age of CoD to be MW to BO2, but younger players have some current-generation maps in their lists. However, we've done our best to tally up the community sentiment around which maps are the best, so here are our findings:

5. Standoff (Black Ops 2)

Based on a small border town between China and Kyrgyzstan, this map has fantastic options for every kind of playstyle. High elevation in the windows of buildings watching the main road is perfect for snipers, while the close-quarters combat opportunities inside those buildings help SMG run-and-gun players pop off. Rifle users are never far from an area that complements their mid-range hardware.

I remember playing around the tank along the main road, controlling that space, and even accessing the nearby building by jumping across the small gap to the roof. There's no surprise that Standoff finds itself on our list as it was rarely vetoed back in the day and was always a highlight of Black Ops 2 multiplayer.

4. Favela (Modern Warfare 2)

Modern Warfare 2 has dropped some banger maps and to this day they are consistently remastered/remade and slotted into other Call of Duty games as a callback. Favela appears quite heavily as the best map from MW2 but other staples like Highrise, Rust, and Terminal are not far behind.

Favela's use of a shantytown and the elevation it offers was masterful design. Players could use the rooftops to quickly traverse the map (at the cost of significant danger) or set up traps inside a building for unsuspecting enemies. Plenty of ridiculous trick shots with the Intervention were born here and those videos still exist on the web (I was an unfortunate victim of a spinning, throwing-knife-cancel headshot and final kill-cam in one; I am still embarrassed to this day).

3. Firing Range (Black Ops 1)

Firing Range at our 3rd spot seems a little wrong due to its complete magnificence, but bear with us because our top two are rightly deserved. This small-medium sized map has found itself remade in two other Call of Duty games besides its own so the developers themselves believed players wanted to see more of it, and they were right.

I adore Firing Range. The days spent flanking and sneaking around the entire map to take enemies by surprise were glorious fun, or holding out in the tin building in the center as you're shot from countless angles. There was a level of tactics and strategy in Firing Range that wasn't really replicated in other maps. It offered pincer attack avenues that had to be watched by claymores or an able-bodied teammate. Overall, there's no wonder Firing Range scores high on our list.

2. Hijacked (Black Ops 2)

Coming in at our number two spot is Hijacked. A vast majority of top 5's mention Hijacked so there's no surprise it finds itself with our silver medal. Black Ops 2 has some fantastic maps but often remastered old favorites, so it's nice to see it create its own timeless classic.

Hijacked may just be my personal favorite map in the history of Call of Duty. Even keeping biases to a minimum, there isn't much negative to say about this masterpiece. The map pits players against each other on a hijacked yacht with multiple lanes of attack and different levels of verticality. Hijacked's cover was unmatched, allowing players like myself to completely outplay opponents without sliding and bouncing off every wall.

1. Nuketown (Black Ops 1)

What is there to say about Nuketown? It's almost universally everyone's favorite map and is easily at the top of our list. Nuketown has many variations thanks to the love from the community and has featured in five different Call of Duty titles since its inception in Black Ops 1. It's a small map with teams spawning at opposite sides of the neighborhood, but offers both fun and competitive gameplay. Nuketown offers that same high-octane gameplay that other small maps achieve but is excellent in that spawn locations are methodical, and thanks to the buildings around, the effectiveness of explosives isn't insufferable.

From Black Ops 1 through to BO2 and even into BO3, this map has always been present during late-night gaming sessions with friends. School may be on the horizon, but so long as Nuketown was available, me and the boys weren't logging off until late into the early morning. I have countless memories with Nuketown and others agree as it routinely makes it into everyone's top 5 at a minimum.

Honorable Mention: Rust

The epitome of a 1v1 map: Rust. If there was a disagreement to settle, you settled it here and let bygones be bygones after the fact. Many players regard this map highly but it does fall short as a multiplayer map when played in standard Team Death Match or even Free For All. Its messy spawns cause some headaches and the lack of cover wasn't the greatest either.

It may not hold up as a multiplayer map and it definitely shows its age in a 6v6 environment, but back in the da,y Modern Warfare 2 Rust was the quintessential beef settler, which is why we give it our honorable mention.

According to Reddit and our list, Black Ops snatches away a large majority of the best maps in the series. With the upcoming Call of Duty expected to return to the Black Ops saga, will we see better-designed maps and some instant classics emerge?
