If you’re looking for a bit of Tim Burton in your next point-and-click RPG, look no further than Children of Silentown. This charming and beautifully drawn puzzler has all of his hallmarks, being darkly playful and comedic while never losing its melancholic, sinister overtones. At the end of the game’s second chapter, your mom disappears, so something has to be done to find her. Below you’ll find our Children of Silentown chapter three walkthrough, as your investigation begins.
How to make Miss Olivia's tea in Children of Silentown
After Miss Olivia asks you to make some tea, grab some cookies from the table then go to the spice cabinet under the stairs. Complete the three jigsaw puzzles (above) to get the tea leaves, then grab the saucepan from the wall and use it on the water butt in the bottom right corner of the room and put the pan on the fire.
Once hot, add the tea to the pot and give it to Miss Olivia. She still won't talk though, so use Song of the Children on her. Once you've completed the puzzle (above) she'll tell you the story about your mother and her when they were young, and your investigation can begin.

You need to walk around town talking to people to gather clues. The clues themselves aren’t important for puzzles, but you'll need to find all 10 to complete your investigation. Head out of the house into the town square and towards the bakery. Silver is on guard outside and won’t let you pass. If you use Song of the Children on Silver, he’ll tell you that if you find his gift that has disappeared, he'll let you pass. Talk to him some more to find out that the gift is a Bakery Paddle.
How to learn Mum’s Song
Talk to the old lady by the river at the south of the square to get a clue, then use Song of the Children on her to get another. Now head to the area behind the barn and grab the rake that is leaning against the back wall. Talk to the crazy old lady here, which will complete Mom's Song.
This unlocks a way of gaining memories from inanimate objects by singing to them, which jogs the memory of people nearby about something from their past. Use Mom’s Song on the hopscotch numbers next to the crazy old lady to witness a vision of two girls playing. Head back towards the town square but on the way jump through the window into the barn. You’ll see a sack moving on the top shelf. Use Mom’s Song on the moving sack and complete the puzzle to reveal Blue’s hiding place, then have a talk with him.
How to open the toolbox
Head east into the farmer's field and talk to the farmer to get a clue. Search the beehives to find a rusty key. Head back to the barn and use the rusty key to open the toolbox to get a hook and a hammer. Go back to the farmer's field and use the hammer on the rabbit hutches to release them. This makes the farmer leave as he chases after the rabbits, allowing you to search the rest of the field in peace.
Walk into the field and examine the scarecrow to get the bakery peel gift you’ve been looking for. Head back to where Silver is on guard outside the bakery and give the peel to Silver. He will now allow you to walk past him any time, so head to the end of the alleyway west and talk to Raven to get your next clue. Red and Black are racing animals against each other. An initial conversation with them won’t do much good, but if you then beat both Red and Black in an animal race you will gain a clue from each. Black will also suggest you go and speak to Blue in the barn again, which will get you your next clue.
How to free the woodworker’s dog
Go back to the woodworker's workshop and use Mom's Song on the woodworker’s hat which is on the ground next to his dog (puzzle above). It seems that the dog wants to be set free so it can go to find the woodworker. If you now head back to behind the barn, you’ll find the old woman has gone, which means that you can take the crate she was sitting on.
Go to the farmer’s field and use the crate on the cherry tree to get a branch full of cherries. Take the branch and go to speak to your best friend Sunny in the town square. She has the shears you need to cut the string and free the woodworker’s dog but needs to find something to do to make her mom believe that she isn't slacking off after she gives them to you. Give her the rake so she can gather leaves and she'll trade them for her shears. Go back to the woodworker’s workshop and free the dog by cutting the rope with the shears. As the dog wanders off, pick up the rope you just cut.
How to get into Miss Olivia’s Garden
Go back into the town square and talk to Sunny about the strange guy in the south of the square. Now go back and talk to him. He’ll talk a little about gardening, after which you’ll be able to sing your songs near him. Use Song of the Children on the strange guy and repair his thoughts (above). You’ll find out that his favorite flower is the cobalt-colored Thibescus.
Combine the rope and hook in your inventory to create a grappling hook. Leave the square to the south past the old lady and then use the grappling hook on the wall of Miss Olivia's garden. Once inside, grab the blue Thibescus flower in the plant pot near the back and take it to the strange guy in the square. After hearing his story, use Mom’s Song on the plant once he puts it on the table. After you complete the puzzle (above) he'll tell you about his lost sister, which contains another clue. And with that, you'll have the last piece of evidence you need.
