Children of Silentown Chapter 4 Walkthrough

Here be monsters...

Indie RPG Children of Silentown is a melancholic Tim Burton-esque point-and-click adventure that has a big heart. You take the role of Lucy, one of the children of Silentown, a small place living in fear of the monsters that live in the nearby forest. Your mother has disappeared, along with many other townsfolk, and you feel something needs to be done. Below you’ll find a full Children of Silentown chapter four walkthrough, during which Lucy takes her first fearful steps into the forest.

How to fix the pipes in Children of Silentown

Grab the hammer in your room then go downstairs and take the cork from the food prep area. Go into the cellar and collect two more corks from the two crates of bottles on the floor. Go outside and turn the newly fixed tap off, which will reveal three holes that need to be filled. You could use the corks on the pipe holes to stop the leaks, but the pressure is too strong, and you can't turn off the faucet. Look on the floor near the leaking water to see tracks left by Squinty. They lead to a hole in the wall, but the pile of junk is too dangerous to go through.

Go back into the house, grab the bottle of oil on the food counter, then use it on the faucet. Turn off the water, then insert two of the corks into the smaller holes and use the hammer to bash them in further. Turn the water back on and the corks hold, sending the other leaks further and destabilizing the pile of junk. Grab the cloth that was dislodged here and combine it with the last cork. It is now big enough to fit in the bigger hole, so repeat the process of turning off the water and inserting the cork. Then turn the tap off, releasing a gush of water that frees the junk against the wall for good, revealing a safe exit.

On the other side of the wall, you'll find Squinty stuck in a tree. Use the hammer on the broken glass of the righthand window of the abandoned building to get a shard of glass. Use the glass on the ropes holding the ladder to the wall to free it, then use the ladder to get Squinty. You'll meet the crazy old lady again, who will give you another song note, and then you return home.

How to find the children in hide and seek

You’ll now begin a game of hide and seek, in which you have to find your six friends:

  • Silver: Behind the well in the square.
  • Red: Go to the cherry tree in the farmer's field, pull the rope, and Red will reveal his location as you fall for his prank. Don't forget to pick up the fake spiders after the prank.
  • Blue: Investigate the straw pile outside the bakery to find a hatch. Go in and find blue cooking cheese. After speaking to him, use Mom's Song on the fire and solve the puzzle (above). Also, go to the back of the cave and look through the crack in the wall to learn a new note.
  • Sunny: On the path to the woods, north of the path. She is covering her ears, so use Song of the Children (answer below) to repair her thoughts.

  • Black: He's hiding in the woodcutter's store outside your house, but you can't get to him. You first need to sing Mom's Song on the trumpet and solve the puzzle (below). Red's dad will then leave, allowing you to find Black. Look at the shed after he leaves and use the spiders on the woodshed to prank him later. Go a short way over to the water pipes to find him again, at which point he'll return to the woodshed and get pranked.
  • Raven: At the end of the alley west of the bakery, in plain sight. Tell her you've already caught Black, and she'll go to the square to meet the others.

How to escape from the monster in the forest

When you wake up a little later in the forest, jump up to try and grab your toy and collect the branch that falls. Use Song of the Children on the tree, solve the puzzle (below), climb the tree again, and this time get a vine. Also, pick up the gross fruit that dropped, then head south.

Use Mum's Song (answer below) on the purple vines (either part of them), then use the shard of glass on the smaller of the statue heads on the ground. Head a little south down a short path and grab the snail. Combine it with the fruit to make a sticky snail and use it to plug one of the holes in the rock that the squirrel is using to evade you. Follow the squirrel south to where you found the snail and head further down a tunnel.

Follow the path right until you get to where a vine is hanging down, and light is coming from a hole. Walk further right and the monster will see you, so you dive back and dislodge a skull. Pick it up, then combine the skull and vine to make a skull hook. Note that in this section timing can be important. You can often only move in some directions after the monster looks the other way.

Go through the hole north, then head left to the end. You'll see a spring that is blocked above you. Use your skull hook on it twice to dislodge the blockage. Now the water is flowing, go back (right, then down) to where you started. A vine here has turned yellow. Use the yellow vine, which activates a flower that distracts the monster. While it is distracted, run right to where you'll find some withered blue roots. Use Song of the Children on the roots and solve the puzzle (below), which will in turn activate a blue vine next to you that is connected to a blue flower.

Use the yellow vine here to get back to the central tunnel area and go through the tunnel north. Pull the blue vine to blind the monster there, then go right. Use Mom's Song on the purple brambles (below) to free the blue vine here, which cures the plant. Go back to the center, head north, and pull the blue vine here to go right again to tackle another set of purple brambles with a key on them, in front of a door.

This time you only need to sing, not solve a puzzle, but the brambles disappear taking the key with them. Go just out of the cave and up a short slope to find the brambles again, but now you can't sing to them. Pop out and pull the blue vine, then rush up and quickly sing to the vine. If you time it right, it will move again. Go down to the door and sing one more time, moving the vines behind you, but you can now grab the key. Use it on the door to move forward.

How to escape the forest

You'll appear in a dark glade, with a plant in front of you that has six stems. You need to touch them until all six light up (press in order 2, 2, 6, 5, 4, 1). Climb into the now-open plant, follow the tunnel, then follow the misty path north until you come to a statue. Put your hand in the statue’s mouth to learn a new note. Use your new Song of the Forest and solve the puzzle (above), then continue north. The next section is a bit of a maze. Keep running north and east until you come to one of three birds, each of which needs a different song to be sung to it:

  • Green: Song of the Forest
  • Red: Mom's Song
  • Blue: Song of the Children

After you sing to the first one you find, follow where it flies to get to the next bird. Follow the last one to find your way back home and complete the chapter.
