Dead by Daylight’s Chaos Shuffle Modifier may shake up the meta

Shake it up!

Modifiers have really improved Dead by Daylight's gameplay experience, especially for those who have been playing the asymmetric multiplayer survival horror title for years. The upcoming DbD Chaos Shuffle modifier has the potential to shake up the meta, and it's become a hot topic within the community.

Chaos Shuffle is set to be the latest in a line of DBD modifiers, a so-far limited game mode that introduced various changes to a trial. Before this, we got to play the Lights Out modifier, with darker maps and no load-outs, as well as My Little Oni, a hilarious experience with shrunk Survivors being chased by a gigantic Oni.

There are currently no exact details about the Chaos Shuffle Dead by Daylight modifier, or when it will come out, but we can make some guesses based on the name, and accompanying image.

For starters, the image Dead by Daylight's official X account posted contains a perk block, but instead of a perk, it shows a question mark. This suggests the modifier will affect players' perks and that we are finally getting a random perk mode. The name Chaos Shuffle also points to a randomized perk mode of some sort.

Random perk roulette is a challenge many have played throughout the years by adding all of the available perks to an online randomizer and letting it choose your loadout. Getting that as a game mode would be fantastic, saving fans around the world a ton of time typing out the plethora of perks in the game into the randomizer.

If Chaos Shuffle does turn out to be 'perk roulette,' then many are asking for it to become a permanent game mode, given it's already a fan-favorite mode. If you aren't happy with the current meta, you could just play Chaos Shuffle since there can't be a meta if you aren't picking the loadout.

Another piece of evidence supporting this theory is Dead by Daylight's 7.7.0 update, which has added the ability for players to see the description of their perks during a game. This would definitely be useful in a game mode where you don't even know what perks you are getting until you are in the trial.

While all signs point to a perk roulette-style mode, there are other fan theories for what Chaos Shuffle is that seem viable. One Dead by Daylight content creator @ConnorSparkyy mentioned that he would love to see a perk swap between players. That means you can make either a great and useful, or hilarious and absolutely useless perk loadout that would go to someone else in a trial. This might be too complicated to accomplish, but if it isn't in Chaos Shuffle, I would love to see it in a different modifier.

Other theories, like changing perks after every generator is turned on by @DutchWvs or potentially after every Survivor hook would also make for a frenetic take on the standard Dead by Daylight experience. There is a lot of room for Behaviour to play with. Here's hoping they go all out and let the mode live up to its name; the more confusing and chaotic the better.
