Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is giving its players the power to make their own anime

"...There's one thing a Saiyan always keeps: his PRIDE!"

Remember the Great Days of YouTube when we would get Dragon Ball battle animatics in the hundreds? You can make your own in Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO with Custom Battle Mode—complete with taunts, dialogue, and full cutscenes.

What is Custom Battle Mode in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero?

Custom Battle is exactly what it implies: a mode where players can stage their own battles. The kick comes with how much power you can have in Custom Battle Mode.

In Custom Battles, you’re able to do the following:

  • Set custom rules
  • Use any character
  • Allow any character to appear on both sides, like a cameo
  • Set any expression and pose at any timeframe (not just the pre-fight)
  • Create your own cutscenes that you can insert in the middle of the battle
  • Write your own dialogue for said cutscenes

Needless to say, fans are really happy about all this. Some are even fully expecting the more dedicated people of the community to create feature-length movies, which is possible given the lack of maximum Custom Battle length.

After you’ve created your custom battle (read: DBZ anime episode), you can even share it online!

X (formerly Twitter) user @eninyon perfectly describes this as “the most a video game has ever understood their fanbase.”

If you’re interested to learn about all the battle modes in Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO, such as online multiplayer and episode battles—here’s the full showcase from Bandai:

Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero will be out globally on October 11, 2024 for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (Steam).
