If you wonder why you can't join your friend's game in Dying Light 2, it's most likely because you haven't completed the prologue.
In short, you will need to complete the prologue section of Dying Light 2 before you can join other players' games. That said, you will need to beat the prologue by completing the quest Markers of Plague in Dying Light 2.
You can start this quest by heading back to Cillian's house and speaking to Harkon, who will be outside. Speaking to Harkon will start the quest where you will need to break inside a Hospital.
Break inside of the Hospital and keep proceeding forward until you leave it. After you leave the Hospital, the quest Markers of Plague will complete, which will unlock online multiplayer.
But, if you have already beaten the prologue and cannot join still, you will need to try the following:
- Restart your router.
- Verify game files.
- Check your internet connection.
- Restart your game/system.
- See if you are missing an update.
- Reinstall the game.
One of these fixes should remedy the issue for you, but if that is not the case, you may need to wait for the next update for the game. Luckily You can check for the latest patches by viewing the official Twitter account for Dying Light 2.
