There are two boss variants of the Ulcerated Tree Spirit, along with 4 non-boss variants that can be found in the open world. The open-world variants can be defeated when found as you should be close to the recommended level for the area. For the boss variants the recommended levels are below:

  • Limgrave: Fringefolk Hero's Grave - Recommended Level 40
  • Mountaintops of the Giants: Giant's Mountaintop Catacombs - Recommended Level 100

Ulcerated Tree Spirit will always drop a golden seed, used to upgrade your flask. While the Boss variants will also drop additional items. Despite the difficulty, these challenging enemies are well worth defeating.

Ulcerated Tree Spirit General Tips

  • Melee builds should hug the boss's side.
  • Avoid blocking. Dodge timing is critical.
  • If fighting in the open world, use Torrent.
  • Fire or Frostbite is highly effective.

Ulcerated Tree Spirit Mechanics

The Ulcerated Tree Spirit attacks with a serpentine-like motion, slithery around the boss arena. The boss is extremely aggressive and will constantly move throughout the fight. It is more effective to use the invisibility frames on your rolls than to block these attacks due to their immense size and high stamina usage when blocking.

The Ulcerated Tree Spirit loosely has two phases. In Phase one, it will mostly use physical attacks such as slamming its head down, swiping its claw, lunging, or biting at you. The major attack to avoid is the Roar And Bite. The Ulcerated Tree Spirit will roar, and leap into the air before turning and attempting to bite the player. If caught in the bite this attack can one-shot most players. You will need to time your roll as the Ulcerated Tree Spirit turns to bite.

During the Ulcerated Tree Spirit's second phase, it will use all of the same attacks but will also have an Explosion. This holy fire attack will cover the surrounding area near the boss before exploding with damage. This attack is hard to avoid, but you can sprint out of its range (or use Torrent if fighting in the open world).

There are many different variations of this boss in Elden Ring, however, they all have the same attacks and mechanics.
