Can you play Final Fantasy XIV offline?

True offline single-player for FFXIV?

Final Fantasy XIV is an award-winning MMORPG with over ten years of content to enjoy and experience. It’s also a mainline Final Fantasy game, which puts it in the same category as beloved favorites of the series, such as Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy X. But those are single-player games that can be enjoyed offline. So does Final Fantasy XIV have an offline mode?

Unfortunately, the simple answer is no; Final Fantasy XIV doesn’t have an offline mode. But for fans of a more single-player experience, the game definitely has a lot to offer. For example, most of the story missions and Main Story Quest of Final Fantasy XIV are single-player experiences.

It’s only the dungeons, Trials (boss fights), and raids that strictly need multiplayer interaction. However, that is slowly changing. Since the Shadowbringers expansion, the game has had a so-called Trust system. This Trust system allows you to complete usually Multiplayer content such as Dungeons with a party of NPCs.

In Endwalker, the latest expansion, the Trust system was expanded to include a limited number of Trials. And beyond that, the developers have revealed in a recent Live Letter that they plan to drastically expand the number of dungeons that can be run by a trust. While this will initially start with A Realm Reborn (ARR) content, it’s expected to include Heavensward and Stormblood content in the future.

Director and producer Naoki Yoshida has similarly expressed his desire for players who are fans of the single-player Final Fantasy games to try Final Fantasy XIV. He wants to be able to offer as good an experience for FFXIV as any other mainline Final Fantasy. So while there’s no offline experience right now, the single-player options for this game are constantly expanding.
