With Endwalker releasing on Dec. 7, 2021, Final Fantasy XIV received its fourth expansion and the official conclusion to one of its biggest storylines. With a record player count, the now award-winning MMO is flying high. So is now a good time to start Final Fantasy XIV if you’ve been putting it off?
The simple answer is, yes, it's a fantastic time to start Final Fantasy XIV. After being initially released to poor reception in 2010, Final Fantasy XIV re-released in 2013 with Final Fantasy XIV 2.0: A Realm Reborn. Since then, the game has gone from strength to strength, earning universal acclaim for its expansions.
Joining now, a new player would have close to 400 hours of Main Story Quest (MSQ) content and a plethora of side content, alternative jobs, raid tiers, and other things to enjoy.
What’s more, older content never dies because of level-syncing and players’ desire to farm items such as mounts and cosmetic gear. You’ll as easily be able to find a party for the very first dungeon in the game as the latest Extreme, high-end Trial.
But beyond that, with now record levels of players, there's a huge community for you to join. Unfortunately, this has had the side-effect of creating huge login queues. These are expected to continue well into January, as players new and old attempt to enjoy content introduced by the latest expansion, Endwalker.
However, Final Fantasy XIV is in an incredibly healthy place as a game, even with login queues. It has an award-winning story and community relations, one of the highest scores on Metacritic in 2021, and a devoted fanbase.
Whether you’re a fan of MMOs, or a new convert looking to experience one for the first time, now is the perfect time to dive into Final Fantasy XIV.
