Which units make the grade?

Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a single-player anime-style tactical RPG and part of the popular long-running Fire Emblem series. Players follow the game’s story through a series of turn-based tactical battles that the series is known for, collecting loot that will give a variety of random new units to use in battle through its gacha system. There are more than 40 units available, with more arriving regularly via DLC content. Below you’ll find our Fire Emblem Three Houses unit tier list.

S-Tier units

With great stats and powerful skill potential, these are the best units in the game.

  • Byleth (male): Strong with both magical and physical damage, as well as being a strong defensive unit.
  • Byleth (female): Great speed, powerful attacks, and is generally considered to be the best unit in the game.
  • Claude: A killer combination of ranged damage and flying ability.
  • Dimitri: Can be built into one of the strongest defensive units in the game.
  • Edelgard: Makes a powerful Wyvern Lord with an unrivaled combination of map coverage and damage output.
  • Lysithea: The game’s best caster in terms of offensive damage output, while having several build options to suit your style that all work.

A-Tier units

These elite units are only a small step down from the best of the best and will still be worth your time and investment.

  • Dedue: One of the strongest defensive tanks in the game.
  • Felix: Great speed and strength, alongside strong evasion, make for a great tank.
  • Ferdinand: A good, simple allrounder that makes a great paladin.
  • Leoni: Can become the perfect bow knight, fast and strong at both short and long range.
  • Linhardt: A strong healer that can also put out solid damage.
  • Petra: High dexterity and speed mean good damage and dodge capabilities.

B-Tier units

All of these units have the potential to be stars of your team if their stats come along well and they suit your style of play.

C-Tier units

You’re either going to need to get lucky with their growth or really like these guys to stick with them long-term. Not the worst units in the game, but unlikely to shine.

D-Tier units

The rest. These really aren’t suited for late game content, so there seems little reason to spend time on them unless you’re severely limited in your options.
