The world of Teyvat is constantly expanding with new sceneries and unique means of exploration, including multi-level maps in the form of underground areas. With the advent of Sumeru, underground areas became the norm, giving Travelers even more square feet to explore. However, underground exploration comes with an equally large problem: there are no maps.
HoYoverse has previously addressed one underground exploration headache by implementing an indicator that informs players whether Teleport Waypoints and Domains live above or below the surface, but it doesn't address the problem of navigating the maze-like underground with no maps. Luckily, players' concerns haven't fallen on deaf ears, as Genshin Impact's developers are finally going to implement underground maps in Version 4.0.

In a Developers Discussion update shared on HoYoLAB, developers confirm that Version 4.0 will introduce maps for all underground areas across Teyvat, including existing Sumeru areas. According to their notes, a toggle will appear in the World Map, allowing players to switch between ground levels, easing the biggest pain point in multi-level exploration.
This feature has always existed in HoYoverse's new game, Honkai: Star Rail, so it's a breath of fresh air to finally see it in Genshin Impact, where navigation is key to exploring the open world. The underground maps have yet to be finalized, but it's been confirmed to be a feature that will release in Version 4.0, a major patch that will also take players to Fontaine.
