Is it worth leveling to 90 in Genshin Impact?

Bennett is the only exception due to his damage buff!

Maxing out a character in Genshin Impact is extremely expensive, but it's worth it depending on the character. While every character can benefit from the extra stats that leveling to 90 can give, not all characters are worth that extra grind. Damage-dealing characters only gain a small amount of Attack from leveling up that is completely superseded by leveling up Weapons and Artifacts instead. Here is everything players need to know about leveling characters to 90 in Genshin Impact.

Is it worth leveling characters to 90 in Genshin Impact?

The short answer is sometimes, and the long answer is it depends. The characters that benefit the most from leveling up to 90 in Genshin Impact are Anemo characters and anyone that needs additional Defense or HP. While other characters that are leveled up will increase their HP, Defense, and Attack along with their Ascension bonus stat, damage-dealing characters don't need the extra Attack all that much. Characters like Arataki Itto, Noelle, and Hu Tao have limited ways of gaining HP and Defense stats with how Artifacts and their stat distribution work.

Why Anemo characters should be leveled up in Genshin Impact

Anemo characters are unique in that much of their damage is dependent on their level and Elemental Mastery, or EM. The higher level an Anemo character is, the higher their base damage and crowd control abilities are. Swirl damage is only affected by the level of the character and how much EM they have, making Attack and Crit pretty useless stats among most Anemo characters. Low-level characters also lack the ability to properly stun or lift up enemies with their attacks. Leveling Anemo characters to 90 is the most effective way of increasing their damage and overall support capabilities for the whole team.

Why Weapons should be leveled to 90 in Genshin Impact

Each Weapon's Base Attack in Genshin Impact severely increases a character's damage output. Weapons, along with character level, are the easiest ways of increasing a character's Attack and are then built upon with the Plume Artifact and both Attack and Attack% stats and sub stats. When leveling a character to 90, the amount of Attack that is gained is extremely low in comparison to leveling up a Weapon to 90 instead. The sub stat of the Weapon also increases when leveled up, giving characters more incentive to do so.

Why leveling Def/HP characters is worth it in Genshin Impact

Although lots of characters don't benefit greatly from leveling to 90, Defense and HP scaling characters do. This is due to the fact that both of these stats are harder to raise or require players to get really good rolls on their Artifact's sub stats. Defense and HP increase much more than Base Attack when leveling up, increasing the survivability of characters and giving characters like Hu Tao or Itto more damage output.
