How to Open a Cosmic Chest in Fortnite

Chapter 2 Season 7 of Fortnite brought us a never-before-seen game mechanic called Cosmic Chests. These chests are encased in a hardened crystal that requires multiple players to break into it and provide substantial rewards once you have. In this guide, we explain how you and your teammates can open them and reap the cosmic rewards!

Note: Cosmic Chests do not appear in Solo mode. You must play Duos, Trios, Squads, or Team Rumble to make them appear. This is because opening them requires teammates to work together!

Step One: Get Together

Cosmic Chests can be seen by any player on the map, but you can't begin the process of opening them until your entire squad is near it. It doesn't matter if you're playing Duos, Trios, or Squads; every person on your team must be near the Cosmic Chest. When you're all near the chest, the game will inform you that you can now take turns hitting the Weak Points on the crystal to break it open.

Step Two: Work Together

In the images above you'll see the players taking turns to open the Cosmic Chest. You will know when it is your turn because the Weak Points will appear on the crystal. Striking the crystal when it's not your turn won't reset the progress, but it won't advance it either. When it is your turn, you must strike the Weak Point. You will know if you're successful because the crystal will glow white-blue and spin around. After that, you must wait until you see Weak Points on the crystal to strike it again.

Step Three: Loot Together

When your team is about to destroy the crystal, you'll all be able to hit it at the same time. When all its sides are cracked, the crystal will glow and move around erratically, then break open to give you access to the Chest inside. Opening a Cosmic Chest rewards you with three Alien Artifacts, which can be used to buy styles for Kymera. It will also drop weapons that are at least Rare (blue) rarity.
