Hogwarts Legacy – Percival Rackham’s Trial Walkthrough & Solutions

In Hogwarts Legacy, you'll get to meet various characters and complete different trials while progressing in the main storyline. Percival Rackham's Trial is the first of these trials, and you need to know how to complete it. Here's a full walkthrough for completing Percival Rackham's Trial in Hogwarts Legacy.

How to complete Percival Rackham's Trial in Hogwarts Legacy

In Percival Rackham's Trial, you will come across the portal system which allows you to travel in and out of different rooms. These portals will be key in solving the puzzles and are heavily featured in Charles Rookwood's Trial as well. You need to complete investigating the goblin presence at San Bakar's Tower, read the note from Ranrok, and enter the Tower with Professor Fig. During the First Trial, you'll face a few portals, and we have explained how to go about solving them.

Where are the chests in San Bakar's Tower in Hogwarts Legacy?

After entering San Bakar's Tower, you need to find Percival Rackham's portrait and interact with it. However, you can have a look around for the chest inside the building. The first chest is located right beside the statue which you can see after entering through the main door. There is also a bag of gold located on the second floor. Check the arrows on the image above to see the location of both of the treasures.

Use the stairs to get up to the second floor, and you'll come across Percival Rackham's portrait. Opposite the portrait, you'll see a locked room with a level three lock. You can unlock this room after learning and upgrading the Alohomora spell. After this, you need to find the entrance to the First Trial which is located in front of the statue on the ground floor.

How to solve the first portal in Percival Rackham's Trial in Hogwarts Legacy

After entering the First Trial, you'll come across a series of portals. The first portal you come across is relatively easy, and you can activate it by taking the stairs from the left-hand side of the platform. Go down and activate the portal as shown in the first image above. After activating it, you'll find a chest just beside the interaction area, as shown in the second image.

Collect the chest and use the stairs to get back in front of the portal. Walk through the portal, and take a sharp left turn.

You'll find the chest here, and another chest directly opposite of it. Check the arrow in the image above to see the location of the other chest. After collecting both chests, return to the original path and move ahead to the next room.

How to solve the second portal in Percival Rackham's Trial in Hogwarts Legacy

Once you enter the second room, walk directly toward the back, and collect the chest marked with the arrow in the image above. The interaction area for this portal is located behind it, use Revelio to identify the spot and interact with the ancient magic.

After interacting with the portal, walk inside it, and you'll come across a Pensieve Protector and a few Sentries. Defeat them all, and move on to the first platform puzzle in Percival Rackham's Trial.

How to solve the first platform puzzle in Percival Rackham's Trial in Hogwarts Legacy

The platform puzzles in Percival Rackham's Trial require you to use Accio to bring them close. You can move around the room by pulling these platforms, and it will be important throughout this quest. When you reach this room, pull the first platform close to you, and then use Accio again to take the platform to the center.

Once you reach the center, look at the right-hand side of the room and use Accio on the hook on the right wall. This will pull the platform to the right side. Jump on the ledge and you'll find the ancient magic 'Investigate' option. Interact with it and this will open another portal right in front of you. Enter the portal to claim the first chest from this room.

Return to the platform and use Accio on the hook in the center pillar. Jump on top of the center pillar and collect the chest shown by the arrow in the image above. For the chest on the left-hand side of the wall, simply move the platform to hook on that side to collect it.

After collecting the chest on the left-hand side ledge, get on your platform, and aim for the hook on the right side of the room. You need to reach the spot behind the portal door. Jump from the platform, and follow the path to the next room where you'll have to solve the second platform puzzle in Percival Rackham's Trial.

How to solve the second platform puzzle in Percival Rackham's Trial in Hogwarts Legacy

After entering the second platform puzzle room, climb up the stairs from the right-hand side of the room, and stand parallel to the platform. Use Accio to pull the platform closer and walk on top of it. You'll notice the 'Investigate' option popping up, and this will activate the portal in the room.

Once the portal is activated, walk inside it and you'll see a bridge created at the center of the room. This bridge will come in handy to solve the last part of this platform puzzle. Now exit the portal, and climb the stairs located on the left-hand side of the room.

After reaching the ledge on the left-hand side, pull the platform close by using Accio. Jump on the portal, and look to the left-hand side wall again to notice the hook on the second ledge. Check the images below to see the exact location of this hook.

Get up on the platform and use the Accio spell to reach the second ledge. There is a chest on this ledge which you can collect easily.

Drop down from the platform and enter the portal once again to create the bridge at the center of the room. Walk up the stairs and stand in the middle of the bridge. Pull the hook on the platform by using Accio, and use the spell once again to reach across the room.

While exiting this room, you'll find another set of staircases with a chest nearby. Use Revelio to see the chest's location on the right-hand side of the statue as shown in the image above.

How to solve the third platform puzzle in Percival Rackham's Trial in Hogwarts Legacy

The third platform puzzle is the trickiest of the lot. When you enter the room, interact with the ancient magic bloom to activate the portal. You'll notice a platform right in front of you, use Accio to bring it closer and jump on it. Now, use Accio on the hook in front of the platform to move it closer to the portal door as shown in the second image above.

There is a chest located on beyond the portal door, but you can only reach it without entering the portal. While on the platform, look to the right-hand side of the room to see a hook. Use Accio to take the platform on the right-hand side. Once on the right hand side, you'll notice another hook on the beyond the portal as shown by the arrow on the image above. Latch on to that hook by using Accio, and drop down to collect the chest.

After collecting the chest, walk out of the portal, and use Accio on the platform to bring it closer. Get up on the platform and look to the left-hand side of the room. You'll notice another hook. Latch on to it by using Accio, but let the spell end before you cross the portal. You must place the platform parallel to the portal door, so you can see the other platform beyond the portal.

Now, use Accio on the platform beyond the portal to bring both platforms close to each other. Jump from the first platform to the one inside the portal.

Once you are on top of the second platform, look to the left-hand side of the room to find another hook. Use Accio to pull closer to hook toward the left-hand side of the room. Now, for the final part, look to the far end of the room to see the other hook. Use Accio and reach the final passage to go through to the next room.

You'll reach another room with a chest, and we recommend using Revelio to locate this one. This chest is located right beside the exit door to this room. Collect it before heading into the final boss fight area.

How to defeat the Pensieve Guardian in Percival Rackham's Trial in Hogwarts Legacy

The boss fight for Percival Rackham's First Trial involves a Pensieve Guardian, and these enemies can be tough to beat. Pensieve Guardians are made purely out of ancient magic, and can only be beaten by similar forms of magic. The best way to defeat the Pensieve Guardian is to keep attacking it until your ancient magic energy bar increases.

The Pensieve Guardian has two signature moves, one where it stomps its foot to create an area wave. For the other attack the boss charges forward and slams down its flail on the ground. You can defend against both attacks by dodge rolling at the precise moment.

The Pensieve Guardian also creates a powerful ancient magic orb which can be countered to gain an advantage in the fight. When the orb starts charging, use magic of the same color to blast it and damage the Pensieve Guardian. For instance, if the orb is red, use magic like Expelliarmus, Confringo, Diffindo, or Incendio to blow it up. Once the boss is defeated, enter the final room to witness Percival Rackham's memories.

How to get all chests in Percival Rackham's Trial in Hogwarts Legacy

Apart from the chests shown above, you'll find a few more chests in the portal rooms, but to reach them you must make certain detours. The first hidden chest is located in the second portal room, which you can collect before solving the first platform puzzle. After defeating the Pensieve Warriors in the second room, enter the lane on the right-hand side of the room. Check the arrow on the image above to see the entrance.

Strike the panel marked with the arrow on the image above with a Basic Cast. This will create a pathway for you to reach across the room and claim the chest at the end.

The other hidden chest is located right at the end of the quest in the room with Percival Rackham's memories. When you enter this room, use Revelio to identify the chest as shown in the image above. It will be located on the right-hand side of the room.

Unlock the chest and then interact with the Pensieve to start the memory. Remember, you need to collect all the chests while completing the First Trial as you won't get to access this area again. These are all the chests you can collect during Percival Rackham's Trial in Hogwarts Legacy.
