Wield a unique ability to face magical perils in Hogwarts Legacy launch trailer

It's so close!

With less than a week before the Early Access period of Hogwarts Legacy is set to start, Avalanche software released a launch trailer early this morning. In it, the choices between good and evil magics were noticeably downplayed, instead focusing on the player character's ability to sense Ancient Magic, a form of magic only referenced in the original Harry Potter book series but implied to be incredibly powerful.

Ancient magic takes center stage in Hogwarts Legacy launch trailer

The trailer begins with information well known to the player: We will be taking on the role of a fifth-year student new to Hogwarts who will need to catch up to his fellow classmates. To do so, we will be given the Wizard's Field Guide, a magical book that will guide us as we explore Hogwarts for the first time. In the trailer, the player character appears to be aware of their unique ability to sense Ancient Magic, but maybe is unable to fully control their ability.

From there, the trailer shows all sorts of challenges the player will seemingly have to face during their time at Hogwarts, from armored trolls to living statues and a particularly antagonistic fellow wizard. It ends with a rather cryptic statement, "We leave our legacy in your hands."

In Harry Potter lore, Hogwarts is known as not only a school but a bastion where things can be protected or, in some cases, contained. Exploring Ancient Magic and why it is here for either of these reasons sounds intriguing, to say the least. Most importantly, it seems as if our player character will not only get to learn more about it but perhaps decide what should be done with it.

Avalanche announces livestreams ahead of Hogwarts Legacy's release

Along with the trailer, Avalanche Software announced they would host two livestreams during launch week. The first will be an early release Q & A session hosted by the Community Manager, Chandler Wood. It will be streamed on both YouTube and Twitch on February 7 at 8am PT. The second livestream will be a celebration of the global launch on February 10. It is set to begin at 8am PT as well, and will be joined by a mysterious special guest.
