Icarus is a survival game that features a PvE style of gameplay. It allows up to eight players to play co-op, tackle the savage world, and hopefully return to their spacecraft. Icarus is strongly based on multiplayer and working together to overcome the deadly environment; some players prefer to play alone and may be wondering if they can play Icarus solo?
The answer is yes—you can play Icarus solo. In their official description and one of their core pillars, developer Rocketwerkz states that players can play Icarus alone. In a Steam discussion forum, one of the developers further reinforced that by saying they plan to add a solo player skill tree.

That being said, Icarus is heavily focused on multiplayer content, so those who wish to play solo will have a more challenging experience. Many of its mechanics can be seen as punishing for those not playing with friends. The most obvious example is player death, as unless a teammate picks you up, all of your gear is dropped.
This means that solo players will somehow have to rebuild their equipment and travel back to their place of death to retrieve their items. Another aspect that will challenge solo players is the blueprint system. Their selection will be severely limited early on without other players to fill in the gaps. So those looking to explore Icarus' world solo should be prepared for a challenge.
