Lost Ark truly begins to open up when you reach the region of West Luterra. You start to unlock trade skills, which will be your money makers. You haven't got to choose only one trade skill. You can test them all and choose the one you prefer. But it is recommended to only stick with one.
Trade Skills unlock in the quest called Crown of Lakebar. In this quest, you have to find materials so the Blacksmith Artisan Urr can create a legendary crown for the prince. After this has been completed, purple Adventure quests start popping up in Lakebar Village.
These trade skills are unlocked via these Adventure quests, so even though you can buy the needed equipment for them, you cannot actually partake in the trade skill itself until the Adventure quest has been completed.

The first two that come available are Mining and Fishing. Then as you progress through the game further, keep an eye open for more Adventure quests to unlock the other trade skills.
Once you have the trade skill, you need to press B to switch to Trade Skill mode. Your weapon abilities will change to trade abilities, and you must press the relevant ability for the trade you want.
Though do take note. Trade skill equipment costs a fair chunk of change, about 1400 Silver each. At this stage, I only had 13,000. This is probably the reason why you do not get access to all trade skill quests all at once, as it would borderline bankrupt you.
If you are a Silver Founder or above and have acquired a Founder's Pack, you will obtain a Gatherer's Tool chest will all the tools inside. But you cannot use them until you have unlocked the Trading Skill.
