Your NFL career will start in year 5 for the first time in Madden history. You will take control of your player, trying to secure a spot on a roster using the new Free Agent system, which allows you to get offers from teams, compare them, and negotiate for your contract.

Players will now be able to play as a lockdown cornerback in Face of the Franchise mode. Quarterback, Wide Receiver, Running Back, and Linebacker are still options to play. With the addition of the lockdown corner, Madden 23 has significant improvements to player control and pre-game activities.

Progression and Side activities in Madden 23 Face of the Franchise mode

Madden 23's progression system has been revamped for Face of the Franchise. Players now progress through archetypes for their position instead of linear levels for classes. Players can respec their builds at any time, giving more customization to how you can play.

Not only is there a new progression system, but players will have much more to do between games. Side activities allow players to choose how to spend the week leading up to games. Players can schedule training, meeting with fans, or other activities that give attribute boosts. After selecting the activities for the week, you can sim to the game or participate in the training drills.

Face of the Franchise will also carry over progression to The Yard, much like Madden 22. This year, with the updated progression system, there will be more builds to work with across both game modes.
