How to make a Blaze Farm in Minecraft

Blaze a trail with this brilliant Blaze Farm!

Blaze Rods and Blaze Powder are essential crafting ingredients in potions and other Minecraft items. But blazes are dangerous and formidable creatures to try and slay, so the most efficient way to gather these items is with a Blaze Farm. But how do you build a Blaze Farm?

The basic concept of a blaze farm is to stop blazes from escaping the area near their spawning point, and use lava to guide them into an area where they can be harvested. Blazes cannot be harmed by lava, but will be moved by flowing lava, making them ripe to be farmed!

The first step, and perhaps the most dangerous, is to find a Nether Fortress and a blaze spawner within it. You’ll need to kill any surrounding blazes, wither skeletons, and other hostile mobs nearby.

Then light up the area around the spawner. You’ll need to do this for at least six blocks out in every direction to prevent blazes from spawning. I use glowstone, but lanterns, torches and other light sources would be fine also.

Next you’ll need to dig seven blocks below the blaze spawner. Here you’ll need a space at least 13x13 blocks wide.

Directly below the spawner, you’ll need at 2x2 empty space surrounded by glass. This is the base of the ‘blaze cage.’ Build out from the now 4x4 glass square, until you’ve constructed a 10x10 glass base. This is the bottom of your spawner.

Next you’ll need to fully enclose the rest of the spawner. For the edges you can use any stone, I’ve used stone bricks as it’s what I had a lot of. Fill each side with glass, and you’ve now finished the shell of the spawner.

Building the Farming Area

Next we’ll need to go down to the bottom of the structure. We’ll be constructing the harvesting area now. Place a chest two blocks below the opening, and one block to the side. Connect four hoppers to the chest by crouching when building them. Place slabs on top of the hoppers (items can move through a single slab and into a hopper).

You’ll also need to enclose the sides of the hoppers, and place two trap doors at the point where you want to farm. This will fully prevent blazes from seeing you and firing at you.

Finally, in perhaps the second most dangerous part, you’ll need to enter the glass structure and finish the farm. Place vines in the ‘hole’ area in the middle. This prevents blazes from climbing up and escaping once they’ve entered the killing area.

Next place a bucket of lava at each of the corners. If you’ve done things right, the lava will finish just at the edge of the hole. Close up the bottom of the glass, and head up to the top of the farm.

Now you’ll need to enter the farm one last time, and place a slab on top of the spawner. This will prevent blazes from staying at the top of the trap, or getting stuck on top of the spawner.

Lastly, destroy the light sources and get out of there! Blazes will spawn as soon as the light sources are destroyed, so you’ll need to be careful. Enjoy your blaze farm!
