The worst errors with running New World come when trying to launch the game. The frustration of not even being able to get in the game is very real.
Without a doubt, the most frustrating error in New World is the “Steam Must be Running” error. Some players have reported that upon launching the game, they get an “Unrecoverable Error.” This error message reads, “Steam must be running to play this game. Make sure you are logged into Steam, then try again.”
Luckily there’s a simple fix to this annoying error. The first option is to restart your steam. Close the program completely, and relaunch it. Alternatively, restart your computer to restart Steam. These will fix the problem most of the time.
However, if this doesn’t work, there’s a slightly more complicated option. First, navigate to New World within your Steam Library. Right-click the icon to open the menu, and then select Manage and Browse Local Files.

Once you’ve gone to the local files, open the EasyAntiCheat folder. Run the EasyAntiCheat_Setup and click the Repair Service option.

Once you’ve completed these steps, New World should run as usual. The error can occasionally happen again, but you can fix it by repeating these steps once more.
