How to Improve Wi-Fi on Your PS5

Get the most out of your internet connection.

With the PlayStation 5, consoles are capable of more impressive and powerful games than ever before. The beauty of these games does come at a cost, however. These releases are often large files sizes, and without a speedy internet connection, it can take hours to install PS5 gamers. Users unable to maintain a wired connection may fear there’s no chance at fast speeds, but there are several ways to make sure to get the most out of Wi-Fi.

Check your internet speed in the console’s Network Settings. Users can access the Setting Menu via the cog on the PS5 Dashboard, as shown in the image below. The goal here is to get your Wi-Fi connection to three bars. If the diagram shows anything less, the connection is lacking, and download speeds will suffer.

Option One: Remove any obstructions between your console and the router. Try to give the PS5 a clear path to the router if at all possible.

Options Two: If there’s no way to get your PS5 closer to your router, consider getting a signal booster to improve the signal strength that your router provides. A signal booster increases wireless signal strength throughout your home. These devices can be found at just about any technology store and are relatively affordable. A price-effective and reliable option here is the NETGEAR Wi-Fi Range Extender EX3700.

Options Three: Try repositioning the PS5. Sometimes the simplest solution is the right one. Try elevating the console or trying another spot in the room. Wi-Fi can be temperamental, and a spot that shouldn’t seem like it would help just might.
