Best Water Type Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

What Water Type Pokémon is the best in Pokémon Legends: Arceus?

Players will have many options when looking for a strong Water-type Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, including a few legendaries. Legendary Water-type Pokémon Palkia (and Origin Palkia) and Manaphy would obviously top the chart as the best Water-type Pokémon, but legendaries aren't always accessible to players needing a Water-type attacker. When looking for a strong non-legendary Water-type Pokémon, Gyarados is always a safe bet and does well in most teams.

Gyarados

Since its introduction way back in Generation 1, Gyarados has remained at the top of the list for the best Water-type Pokémon. Its notoriously weak pre-evolution, Magikarp, is no representation of the power that Gyarados has in battle. It has a dual-typing of Flying and Water, which gives it few weaknesses and an immunity to Ground-type moves.

Other strong Water Type Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

The options of Water-type Pokémon are always plentiful, and this is no different in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. High-tier Pokémon of this typing include Walrein, Empoleon, and Basculegion. The new regional variant of Samurott is an honorable mention and is a better all-around Pokémon than Basculegion, though its stats don't quite match up.

Walrein

Walrein is an Ice and Water-type Pokémon having few weaknesses or resistances. Its stats are decent across the board, but it lacks any one weak link in its stat makeup as many other strong Pokémon have. This makes it a great choice for players needing a Water-type attacker.

  • Type: Water and Ice
  • Stat Total: 530
    • HP: 110
    • Attack: 80
    • Special Attack: 95
    • Defense: 90
    • Special Defense: 90
    • Speed: 65

Empoleon

Empoleon has a great dual-typing with Steel and Water working together to give the Pokémon a long list of resistances and an immunity to Poison-type moves. Empoleon also has a nice attack stat and a fantastic special attack, coming in at 111.

  • Type: Water and Steel
  • Stat Total: 530
    • HP: 84
    • Attack: 86
    • Special Attack: 111
    • Defense: 88
    • Special Defense: 101
    • Speed: 60

Basculegion

Basculegion is a new Pokémon from the Hisui Region. Interestingly, Ghost and Water-typing puts it in the mid-range for weaknesses and resistances. Its stats make it a heavy hitter when it comes to attacks, but Basculegion can be a bit underwhelming when it comes to defense.

  • Type: Water and Ghost
  • Stat Total: 530
    • HP: 120
    • Attack: 112
    • Special Attack: 80
    • Defense: 65
    • Special Defense: 75
    • Speed: 78
