How should you divide your forces in Chapter 17? – Triangle Strategy

You’ll be stuck with your decision for three battles. So, really think about it, okay?

So, you’ve managed to unlock the game’s Golden Route—good job! However, now you’re faced with a new challenge: Serenoa’s ambitions mandates that you divide your entire army into three regiments: Benedict’s, Roland’s, and Frederica’s. Each will be put into separate battles in Chapter 18, and you cannot switch units until you’ve won all three stages.

If you put the wrong people in a group, your chances of failing are high. In fact, some characters are genuinely better off in a specific regiment. To help you craft the perfect teams, here’s a quick guide.

Benedict’s Regiment

  • Map: Wolffort demesne
  • Goal: Decimate all enemies

This map is the hardest among the three, and if you’ve protected Roland in Chapter Seven, you’ll know exactly why. Exharme will bring a huge wave of Hyzantian soldiers with him, arriving in three waves. There are more enemies compared to your confrontation with Avlora.

To win this battle you absolutely need:

  • Jens
  • Hughette
  • Archibald (but if you don't have another archer to use for Roland’s team, leave Archibald for them)

Other recommended units are Ezana (Rite of Rain and Thunderstorms) and Cordelia. If you don’t have Cordelia, bring Geela. You need a dedicated healer. They have archers and Exharme is very, very mobile.

Once you’ve triggered all the traps with Hughette and Archibald’s Inescapable Arrow, you’ll find that enemies can only approach you from two narrow paths. Use Jens’ traps on the narrow path located at the center (see pic above), continuously flinging the enemy back. Most of the enemies will enter from there. Benedict’s Twofold Turn can help you grant Jens all the opportunities to do this.

Then, attack from far away. Archibald will make things so much easier for you here.

Roland’s Regiment

  • Map: Twinsgate, one door is open
  • Goal: Defeat Gustadolph

Next to Benedict’s battle is Roland’s, which is the second most difficult. It would have been the most difficult if goal was to decimate enemies but it’s not.

To win this battle you preferably need:

Quahaug has a skill that allows him to teleport an ally to any square within range. It’s the fastest way to get your archer on top of the Twinsgate door and have them fire arrows on the enemies from above. But if you don’t have Quahaug, that’s okay! You can use the Lightwave Quietus.

Since the goal is to defeat Gustadolph, Anna’s two-turn passive is extremely useful in inflicting two follow-up attacks during her turns. Be sure to have a powerful melee unit opposite her, like Roland and Ser Maxwell. Maxwell, in particular, can always position himself behind Gustadolph by using Traverse.

Piccoletta is also useful for dealing follow-up attacks from far away. Plus, her Decoy skill can distract some of the other enemies.

The best strategy for this map is to wait for Gustadolph to come to you. Never set foot into his attack range to buy some time and defeat the first wave of enemies. Once he’s within range, use the Missed Opportunity Quietus to stall Gustadolph for one turn and start pelting him with attacks.

Frederica’s Regiment

  • Map: The Source
  • Goal: Decimate all enemies

Frederica’s battle is the easiest. The map is big, the number of enemies are low, and everyone moves like a frightened snail. You’ll never be overwhelmed.

In fact, as long as you have the following...

… you’ll survive the battle with little issue. Because if you can’t heal, the enemies are far and few enough for some of your backup units to use pellets.

Avlora is a beast with high power, defenses, and evasion. She’ll kill any unit in two hits and survive most anything. Due to Avlora’s Lone Wolf Elite class passive, this team will benefit the fewer people are in it. Put all your firepower into the other regiments and let Frederica and Avlora carry this battle for you—because they can.

Erador will stall enemies with Provoke. Use him to provoke mages and healers especially, as they’re weak to physical attacks and Erador has the Physical Counter passive. He’ll defeat them without wasting a turn.

Julio is sort-of helpful here, as he can supply Frederica with TPs for spells. In fact, you can bring Corentin with you as well!

And that’s it! Feel free to move around everyone else as you see fit. Just be sure that every team at least has one powerful melee attacker (like Serenoa and Avlora), a mage, and healer. This will cover all your bases.

Leveling up far behind units is a non-issue. You can grind in the level 41 and 49 Mental Mock Battle. For a full guide on how to do this efficiently, you can take a look at How to level up fast in Triangle Strategy on Pro Game Guides.
