Can you play Sea of Thieves offline?

Sea of Thieves is full of pirates.

When it comes to pirate games, Sea of Thieves is probably the most well-known and highly played. This online title lets you sail solo or with a crew but does require you to be online. Those who prefer a more secluded experience may be wondering if Sea of Thieves has an offline mode.

Does Sea of Thieves have an offline mode?

The answer is no. Sea of Thieves does not have an offline mode, and there is no way to play it offline. Sea of Thieves has a consistent online world, which means you must be connected to the internet to play it. Additionally, there are no private servers, so there is no way to play the game without other players being on the sea with you.

Many fans have requested an offline or single-player mode for Sea of Thieves, but developer Rare has no plans. Their vision of Sea of Thieves is that of a multiplayer title. As a result, it is highly unlikely that there will be an offline version of Sea of Thieves.

Sea of Thieves Offline Alternative

All hope is not lost, as developer Lavaboots Studio has released Salt 2: Shores of Gold in early access. While this is not Sea of Thieves, one can easily see the inspiration and many similar mechanics. It features a procedural open world, sailing, combat, and more. If you have been craving a single-player offline Sea of Thieves, this title may scratch your itch.
