The Shroudbreaker on a Pedestal.

How to get Magpie’s Wing Ship’s Log in Sea of Thieves | Shroudbreaker Tall Tale |

Back when Sea of Thieves was still growing its player base and before many of the current features were added,  pirate adventurers were looking for a story to the game. Rare, the game's development company, delivered. The end result was a succession of stories, called Tall Tales, that gave players a renewed thirst for adventure and a reason to spend hours sailing the ocean. Some of these Tall Tales are easy, some are hard, but all of them provide clever riddles, treasure, and plenty of fun. Today, we're going to take a look at the first Tall Tale: The Shroudbreaker.

If you have already completed this, we have other parts guides to lead you through the remaining parts. They are listed and linked below.

SHROUDBREAKER JOURNAL LOCATIONS: Since the Journals are optional, we did not include them in the main guide. If you wish to obtain them, follow the link above on Where to Find the Journal Locations. You are only able to do these while the Shroudbreaker Tall Tale is active!

If you're here to get help with beginning this quest, you've come to the right place! We must give you a proper warning: this guide may contain spoilers that will reveal the story. We'll be going through each part, step by step, and explaining how to solve the riddles presented to you. That being said, let's find the Magpie's Wing Ship's Log!

Step One: Starting the Tall Tale

A screenshot of the Mysterious Stranger and Shroudbreaker book.

Since this is the first Tall Tale in the game (after the tutorial), they've made it easy to begin the quest. You can even start it as soon as you enter any Sea of Thieves server. You start in the Tavern on a random Outpost, and regardless of the Outpost, that is precisely where you need to be. If you're not already in one, head to any Outpost and enter the Tavern.

You'll see the Mysterious Stranger near the back of the Tavern, as shown in the image above. He is a bulky man, dressed in black, with glowing eyes. Next to him is a book (also shown in the image), which you'll need to start the Tall Tale. Interact with the book, and the story will start! The Mysterious Stranger will begin talking to you to warn you about the upcoming dangers, but since when has danger stopped you?

Step Two: Locating The Magpie's Wing Ship's Log

A circle in N13 Island in Sea of Thieves.

When you read through the Tall Tale's book, you'll find that it informs you that the sunken Pirate Lord's ship's location is at an uncharted island between The Crooked Masts and Crook's Hollow. This is known among the Sea of Thieves community as N13 Island, primarily because the island is on the map in Row 13 and Column N. This is where you will be headed to find the remains of the Magpie's Wing.

When you're ready to start, look at the map on your ship and determine which direction you need to sail to reach this map block. Hoist the anchor, set the sails, and head to the helm to steer into adventure!

The exact location of N13 Island in the block.

The island you're looking for is tiny compared to other islands, but the shallow waters around it are rather large. The image above shows you exactly where on the square the island will be found. If you see the tell-tale red plant in the middle of the island, you've come to the right place. Park your ship on the North West side..

Once you've stopped, dive off of your ship into the water below. If you're in the correct area, you'll see a massive sunken ship broken into two parts like the one shown in the image above. This is The Magpie's Wing, and the Ship's Log will be here. You'll need to hold your breath for a bit to collect the Ship's Log, so once you've found this ship, we recommend breaching the surface to gather your breath before you dive back down to get it.

The Magpie's Wing Ship's Log in a chair.

To find the Ship's Log, you'll need to head to the Captain's Quarters. This room is located on the back half of the ship. Inside the room, you'll find a chair like the one in the image above. Resting on the cushion is the Ship's Log! When you swim over to it and interact with the Log, the pages will be added to the back of the Tall Tale book in your inventory and ready for you to read. You will also unlock The Lost Voyage Commendation, one of the nine Commendations you can receive for this Tall Tale.

JOURNAL LOCATION: N13 Island is where you will obtain the first of the Shroudbreaker Tall Tale's Hidden Journals. You are only able to get these while the Shroudbreaker Tall Tale is active. Obtaining these is optional, but unlocks a commendation if you find all five of them. If you want to get all of them, you must start by collecting the one located on N13 Island. Follow our guide for Shroudbreaker Journal Locations to find them on your way!

This completes this section of The Shroudbreaker Tall Tale guide and brings us to the point in which we must use the newly acquired pages to determine our next steps. So once you've found that, head to the next guide: Locate the Ancient Chest.
