What are Bandit Lairs in Sherlock Holmes Chapter One?

Test your might.

Sherlock Holmes games of yesteryear have focused solely on puzzles, clue finding, and case solving. In many ways, Sherlock Holmes Chapter One honors those traditions. Still, the developer Frogwares Games has added some new gameplay elements, like combat and bandit Lairs, to freshen things up.

Available after you complete the Master of Disguise case, Bandit Lairs become optional locations filled with hostile enemies and combat challenges that award cash if you succeed. Five Bandit Lairs spread across Cordona found at skull icons (seen below), each presenting a different map layout and enemy configuration.

Completing a Bandit Lair for the first time will unlock a combat challenge that, when activated, will result in a higher reward multiplier for a successful run. Each of the five lairs will unlock a different modifier, which can be activated all at once or in any combination you desire.

When inside a lair, enemies will come at you in waves, with each enemy presenting a different threat. In general, your goal is to shoot the blue armor pieces off of your enemies (seen when aiming) before you can arrest or kill them. You will receive higher rewards if you make arrests instead of killing everyone.

If you're looking to arrest for the highest rewards, be sure to use the environment to your advantage for both offensive and defensive purposes. Crouch or roll behind provided cover to reload or regenerate health and stay moving to avoid gunfire.

On the offensive, use explosive environmental aids to disorient an opponent so you can move in for the non-lethal takedown (or kill). They are seen as glowing yellow objects while you're aiming in slow motion and can only affect bandits without armor or those that have been stripped of all armor.

After you've completed the Lair, you will be given a wrap-up screen that breaks down the statistics of your fight and gives you a ranking, which all equates to the reward you've earned.
