Best Melee Weapon in Sons of the Forest – All Melee Weapons, Ranked

It's the Katana, no doubt about it.

There are a number of melee weapons in Sons of the Forest that be found and crafted, but some are much more worth the effort than others. Many of the weapons in the game are locked behind keycards, dig sites, and materials. Some of the best weapons are found in the late game, as are some of the more ridiculous and gimmicky weapons. This is every melee in the game and how they compare to one another in Sons of the Forest.

All Sons of the Forest Melee Weapons Ranked

S Tier

Katana

Swings fast and does as much damage as the Modern Axe. Its long reach makes it very useful for keeping a little more than melee distance away.

Firefighter Axe

Stronger than the Katana but with a slower swing speed. This makes it mainly useful against enemies that can be stunned.

A Tier

Modern Axe

This is the weapon that most players will be using the longest when they find it. It has good damage and is a big improvement from the starting axe.

Machete

While not as strong as the Modern Axe, this weapon has a much faster swing speed.

Stun Baton

While not dealing much damage, the strong attack of the baton will stun enemies, allowing players to attack them with a stronger weapon after.

B Tier

Guitar

The guitar is one of the more mediocre weapons, however, it does deal a decent amount of damage compared to some of the other more gimmicky weapons.

Tactical Axe

The starting axe isn't the greatest, but it is still a decent weapon to use when spears aren't an option.

Crafted Spear

The utility of the weapon makes it better than the starting weapons due to it being able to be thrown. Multiple can be made, thrown, and then retrieved after.

Crafted Club

This weapon is better than the Tactical Axe and is the best weapon to use before getting the Machete or Modern Axe.

C Tier

Tactical Knife

The starting knife is fast but the reach requires being very close to an enemy and doesn't do all that much damage.

Putter

This is probably the worst weapon in the game because of how the damage is, but can be found in multiple places. It has no use outside of reference that the island was used for golfing.

Shovel

While this is supposed to only be used for digging, the shovel can be used as a weapon as well. Its damage output is on par with the putter but is even worse because of its swing speed.
