3. Splatoon 1

The first Splatoon game gained popularity as one of the top Wii U titles, giving players a novel and energizing a new perspective on the third-person shooter subgenre. While the game is technically a shooter, there are no real weapons. Instead, everything revolves around the paintball-like guns and lots of paint you use in matches.

Splatoon demonstrated what kind of game it strives to be, and all of the post-release upgrades and events like Splatfests were a ton of fun. This was despite criticism of missing multiplayer and having to acquire Splatoon amiibo to acquire additional content.

2. Splatoon 2

Splatoon 2 kept all the significant aspects of the first game and introduced brand-new elements to keep things interesting. For example, we're big fans of its new narrative-driven single-player mode, which gave the Splatoon universe more depth and lore. The DLC expansion also provided a singular rush of gratifying gameplay. Splatoon 2 is a strong sequel, thanks to everything it puts on the table.

1. Splatoon 3

Splatoon 3 is an excellent example of a sequel done right. Developers knew they just needed to upgrade the fund from previous games without significant changes to the game design. The third game introduces a lot of new stuff:

  • New story mode
  • Tableturf Battles (card-based game mode)
  • Squid Surge and Squid Roll move
  • Stringer weapon class
  • New weapons in Splatoon 3
  • Multiplayer arenas
  • Tricolor Turf War
  • Gear modification
  • Improved Salmon Run
  • New Salmonid

As you can see, Splatoon 3 is a superior version of Splatoon 2, where everything that worked is now better. With the game being very popular on Nintendo Switch, you can expect many hours of fun, especially with Splatoon 3 Expansion Pass, which adds even more content.
