In Super Robot Wars 30, you’re given a choice to specify what blood type you have at the beginning of the game when you select your character. While this can seem like an innocuous choice, it actually has far-reaching implications in the game.
Hidden Stat
In Super Robot Wars 30, blood type acts as a hidden stat that decides which Spirit commands you’ll unlock as your character levels up. Depending on your blood type, you’ll unlock different ones at different levels. This combines with your selected birthday to decide which set of Spirit Commands you’ll get for the rest of the game.

For instance, with the default blood type for Edge (the male protagonist) of O, you’ll receive Intuition as your first Spirit command, followed by Persist at level 5, Spirit at level 15, Charge at level 25, Resolve at level 35, and Soul at level 55.
Good Starting Blood Type
A good starting blood type and birthday combination for new players is B and November 11. This is a cheat code of sorts that gives you a great set of spirits at lower levels and for lower costs. This birthday and blood type combination was the same as one of Super Robot Wars' original producers and is an easter egg for players.
So yes, it definitely matters which blood type you pick—to a certain extent. However, this kind of character fine-tuning shouldn’t affect your game too much unless you‘re playing on the game's harder difficulties. In that case, tweaking your character to be better in small ways is the best way to beat the game.
