How to find Shimmer in Terraria

Nothing shimmers quite like Shimmer.

Action-adventure sandbox game Terraria features exploration, crafting, building, and combat in a gorgeous 2D world. But gathering raw materials to use isn’t always enough, as some items need to be transformed for you to get the results you need. One of the most valuable transformation liquids is Shimmer, which must be used to transform certain items and entities to create items such as Ambrosia, Aether Torches, Ancient Bricks, gifts, and more. But it isn’t easy to come by. Below we’ll explain how to find Shimmer in Terraria.

How do I get to the Shimmer biome in Terraria?

Shimmer arrived in the 1.4.4 update and can be found on any world created then or afterward. Rather than being its own biome, you’ll need to dig down to the Aether Biome on one of these worlds to find Shimmer. Go to the side of the world that has the jungle, then dig down into its Cavern layer (it is usually below the ocean above). It’s easy to spot because the Shimmer itself appears as a large purple lake. But the amount you find will be limited.

The preferable alternative is to craft a Bottomless Shimmer Bucket. You can do this at an Ancient Manipulator by combining 10 Luminite Bars (from defeating the Moon Lord) with a Bottomless Water Bucket (from completing Angler quests). Alternatively, if you have found the Shimmer and have a bottomless Water Bucket, you can use the bucket on the Shimmer Pool to transform it into a Bottomless Shimmer Bucket. With the Bucket, you’ll have a permanent source of Glimmer.
