How does Corruption work in Total War: Warhammer 3?

Corruption spreads...

Corruption has fundamentally changed in Total War: Warhammer 3. Unlike in previous games where Chaos Corruption was just a generic or Chaos Undivided aura, in Total War Warhammer 3, there are five distinct types of Chaos Corruption. This is in addition to Skaven and Vampiric Corruption.

Each Chaos god, Khorne, Nurgle, Tzeentch, and Slaanesh, now has its own type of Corruption. What’s more, there’s an overall Chaos Corruption similar to the Corruption in Total War: Warhammer and Total War: Warhammer 2.

Different Factions will be buffed or hindered by the types of Corruption. For instance, mortals like Kislev and Cathay will suffer attrition and worse in corrupted areas. Meanwhile, Chaos affiliated factions will often benefit from fighting in polluted areas.

Each Chaos Corruption has its own effect on the area as well. For instance, if an area is corrupted by Tzeentch, non-Tzeentch or Chaos factions will see their Growth reduced by -40, Control by -10, and have -15% to the strength of change in the Winds of Magic. Similar positive effects will be given to Chaos factions.

A Chaos Undivided faction will receive the in-combat bonuses, but not those that affect Control or Growth. If you’re a Chaos faction, building in corrupted areas is a great idea. Corruption ranges from 10-100 and, at the maximum, gives incredible buffs to Chaos.

However, each Chaos Corruption offsets each other and other Corruption types. That means that as Corruption for one faction grows, it will limit the amount of total Corruption. Therefore, it is basically impossible for Chaos, Skaven, and Vampires to share the same region, as their valuable Corruption effects are offset.
