Summary of WoW Dragonflight Profession Changes – TLDR

Professions in World of Warcraft are about to get an overhaul. During the Dragonflight reveal and subsequent deep dive, several interesting details about the upcoming changes were outlined.

The first big addition is Crafting Orders. These orders let players request others to craft items for them. This goes more in-depth than the current Auction House system, as players can now browse recipes, pick the one they want, and contribute gold and resources toward it. Players can have another player craft it, or they can visit an NPC who will send the order out in a similar fashion to the AH. The order can even be specified for a particular player, guild, or made public for any crafter.

Perhaps the biggest addition to this system is the ability to request Soulbound items be crafted for them, regardless of having the profession or not. Previously, many higher quality crafted items were locked behind the Soulbind system, restricting their use to the crafter. This will no longer be the case and will open up a number of options for players.

Similar to Final Fantasy XIV, a quality system is also being introduced. Simply put, higher quality items are going to be better. This can take the shape of a higher item level, better stats, or more potent effects.

Crafting specializations are making a return. No matter how it's learned, players can take their craft to the next level. For example, a Blacksmith could become an Armorsmith and invest points in that to be better at crafting armor. The idea is that players will be able to market themselves to others through the Crafting Orders system. It's an ambitious plan, and we'll see if the WoW community adopts it.
