What is Rollback Netcode in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl?

A stable connection is confirmed.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is a platform fighter bearing many similarities to Nintendo’s own Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. In this type of fighting game, players use a host of moves to battle other characters while traversing a stage, but Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl differs from the competition because it has Rollback Netcode.

Rollback Netcode is a type of connection often used in fighting games. This connection is essential in fighting games, as players input commands, and interaction between players happens in a small time window. For movement, hit detection, and smooth actions, this is key.

Super Smash Bros. Uses a peer-to-peer connection which often causes lag in fighting games. It’s one of the Smash community's biggest complaints, so worth mentioning that Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is poised to launch with a far more competent online play.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl launches October 5, 2021, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows. While the title, unfortunately, won’t feature cross-play at launch, players are holding out hope for the addition of this feature in the coming months.
