After a long wait, Square Enix has officially announced the release date for its upcoming mobile title, Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier. The game will launch globally on November 17, and players can pre-register right now. Square has also released the opening cutscene on its YouTube channel.
First Soldier will be part of the Final Fantasy VII universe, serving as a prequel to the game's events. Since the Final Fantasy VII Remake release, Square has been expanding the brand by releasing more promotional material and spin-off titles. First Soldier will be a battle royale game akin to that of PUBG and Fortnite.
The game is set 30 years before the events of Final Fantasy VII, and the premise of the game centers on the early formation of the SOLDIER program. SOLDIER is an elite fighting force that used to be the bodyguards and enforcers for the Shinra Corporation. In First Soldier, players will be able to customize their character avatar and join the SOLDIER program.
Franchise antagonist Sephiroth was considered to be the greatest SOLDIER to ever live before falling from grace. Lead protagonist Cloud Strife was also a SOLDIER that he followed under Sephiroth's footsteps before turning his back on Shinra and becoming a mercenary.
