Will Dying Light 2 use Denuvo?

The developers of Dying Light 2 have confirmed via the game's Steam page that it will make use of Denuvo. Denuvo DRM has garnered lots of controversy in the past few years for a multitude of reasons. With this in mind, fans have obviously shown apprehension to Techland's use of the anti-cheat.

What is Denuvo?

Denuvo DRM is an anti-piracy/anti-cheat program that some developers have included in their games as a security measure. For Dying Light 2, the purpose of Denuvo would be to ensure there is no piracy, modifications, or abuses to the game. Since Dying Light 2 will have a heavy online multiplayer component, developers are worried about potential in-game exploits and piracy. Denuvo is supposed to help lessen these issues upon release.

Why does Denuvo cause controversy?

Many developers have faced backlash for their use of Denuvo DRM in the past. In 2020, Capcom even removed the software from Resident Evil 3 after its release due to fan's outcry over the software. Denuvo has faced much criticism for lowering the performance of the game's that utilize it. Fans have claimed that Denuvo has an unnecessarily large CPU usage and causes games to play at a lower quality.
