Where are Donald and Goofy in The Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer?

Just where are these guys, and what are they looking for?

At the close of the Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer, Donald and Goofy, loyal in-game companions and Disney icons, walk through a shadowy area looking for someone. But where are Donald and Goofy, and what does this last part of the trailer imply we’ll see in Kingdom Hearts 4?

Well, it’s speculated from the brief flash of blue flame before Donald and Goofy turnaround that Hades is confronting them. Some have identified the speaker as Kyusaku Shimada, the Japanese voice actor for Hades from Hercules that the pair are in the Underworld.

This likely confirms the inclusion of Hades in the game and possibly an Underworld-themed level. The Kingdom Hearts franchise is known for giving its fans the chance to explore the settings and worlds of beloved Disney franchises, and now another Hercules-themed level seems to be in the works for Kingdom Hearts 4.

Beyond this is the question of what Donald and Goofy are doing in the Underworld, and who they’re looking for? Well, given that death is a somewhat nebulous concept in Kingdom Hearts, it’s unlikely they’re looking for someone who’s dead. Instead, they may be looking for a character who has been banished to the Underworld.

For whatever reason they’re there, Donald and Goofy have clearly bitten off more than they can chew if they’re directly confronting the god of the Underworld!
