Thravnairian Calamari is one of the more difficult to catch fish, or squid, in Final Fantasy XIV. Requiring several prerequisites and needing to fish at level 85 fishing holes, it's a tough one to land. Here's where and how to catch the Thavnairian Calamari in Final Fantasy XIV.
How to get Thavnairian Calamari in FFXIV
The first step to getting Thavnairian Calamari in Final Fantasy XIV is unlocking the Tome of Ichthyological Folklore - Ilsabard and the Northern Empty. To do this, you’ll need 16 Regional Folklore Trader’s Token C. These are sold for 100 White Gather’s Scrips by Gathere’s Scrip exchange vendors.
Once you have 16 Regional Folklore Traders, you’ll need to talk to the Splendors Vendor in Radz-at-Han. They’re located at the East Balshahn Bazaar (X: 11.4, Y: 9.2). Purchase the Tome and use it to unlock the fishing spot for the Thavnairian Calamari.

How to catch the Thavnairian Calamari in Final Fantasy XIV
Thavnairian Calamari can be caught at the Perfumed Tides fishing hole located at Thavnair, in Ilsabard (X: 7.3 Y: 7.6). A Medium fish, it doesn’t require any advanced fishing techniques, just either Mackerel Strips or Versatile Lures.
The Versatile Lure
Versatile Lures are the most useful late-game fishing bait in Endwalker. This should be your default Lure/Bait for almost every fish you catch from level 81-90. The Thavnairian Calamari is no exception. Look for two exclamation points (!!) when you snag a fish, and there's a good chance it's a Thavnairian Calamari.
What is Thavnairian Calamari used for in FFXIV
Thavnairian Calamari is used in a pair of high-level Culinarian recipes that are highly sought after the release of patch 6.2. These are the Kalamarakia Tiganita, and the Calamari Ripieni. Both are level 90 Culinarian recipes acquired from the Master Culinarian IX books.
