One of the best things about Old School RuneScape (OSRS) is if you love crafting, you can you can try your hand at everything, rather than the game limiting you to one or two skills. Even in free-to-play (FTP), you have the option to take on eight different crafting and gathering skills, including Fishing and Firemaking. On the flip side, getting these skills up to a level where they’re really useful can be a bit of a grind. So if you’re looking to level up Firemaking in OSRS, read on for our guide to the fastest method to getting from level 1-99.Â
How to get Firemaking from 1 to 99 Fast (Old School RuneScape)
While there are a few quests that can give you a nice boost with some big Firemaking XP (see below), you’re largely going to have to grind out the experience by burning logs. The bonus here is you can level Woodcutting at the same time by chopping down trees of the relevant level (and then immediately burning them for your Firemaking XP).
You can also collect the Ash from the floor after burning the trees, and then sell it at the Exchange so that you get some cash for your efforts. Otherwise, if you’re cash rich, you can always buy the logs you need from the Exchange instead.
OSRS quests that give Firemaking XP
The quests below will give you Firemaking XP once completed. However, each has quite a high bar to entry across several different skills.
- The Giant Dwarf (requires Firemaking 16, Crafting 12, Magic 33, and Thiecing 14): Requires Membership (so not FTP). The quest starts in the Keldagrim Mines, northwest of the Troll Stronghold in Troll Country. Completion will earn you 1,500 Firemaking XP.
- Enlightened Journey (requires Firemaking 20, Crafting 36, Farming 30, plus 20 Quest Points): Also requires Membership (so not FTP). Begin the quest on the Island of Entrana, west of Falador, by talking to Auguste. Completion will earn you 4,000 Firemaking XP.
- Enakra’s Lament (requires Firemaking 45, Crafting 50, Magic 39, and Prayer 43): Also requires Membership (so not FTP). You’ll need to head to the Kharidian Desert to pick up the quest from Lazim, who is in the small camp just northeast of the Quarry north of the Ruins of Unkah. Completion will earn you 7,000 Firemaking XP.
OSRS Firemaking XP - Best Grinding Locations for Levels 1 to 50
I’ve found the most efficient way to earn Firemaking XP is to also level Woodworking while you do so, chopping down trees for Woodworking XP and immediately burning them for the Firemaking XP (you’ll level Woodworking slightly more slowly and annoyingly). You’ll also want to upgrade your Axe as you go, which also requires you to up your Attack level (so it’s not for everyone). Either way, this is the wood you need to level Firemaking the fastest:
- Levels 1 to 15: Normal Logs. I suggest chopping the trees down around the Grand Exchange, as you can immediately sell the Ash you make from fire-making afterward.
- Levels 15 to 30: Oak Logs. You will need level 15 Woodcutting to chop down Oak Trees. There are some Oak trees just southeast of the Grand Exchange along the path that runs to the right of the Palace and Varrock.
- Levels 30 to 35: Willow Logs. You won’t use these for long, but they’re cheaper than Oak to buy, so if you’re going that route, it is worth switching for a few levels to save some cash. For woodcutting, you’ll find Willow Trees around Port Sarim and Draynor Village. Willow requires level 30 in Woodworking to harvest.
- Levels 36 to 45: Teak Logs. Teak logs can be quite expensive, and you’ll need close to 400 to get to level 45 Firemaking (which will cost you around 100,000 coins from the Grand Exchange). Alternatively, chop them yourself at Hardwood Grove, Uzer, or Ape Atoll once you have Woodworking 35 or higher.
- Levels 46 to 50: Maple Logs. You’ll only be on Maple for a few levels and the logs are cheap, so it's easiest to grind these by buying them. But if you do want to chop them down yourself, you’ll have to head to Fremennik Province in Kandarin and have Woodworking level 45.
OSRS Firemaking XP - Best Grinding Locations Levels 51 to 99
If you can afford to, buying logs from here on in is advisable as these trees are rarer to find and can be quite competitive to cut down (due to other players also leveling their Woodworking skill). As such, if you want the fastest method, pick up the logs from the Grand Exchange.

- Levels 51 to 60: Mahogany Logs. To grind your own Mahogany logs, you’ll need Woowworking at level 50 or higher. Head to Hardwood Grove to find them, or alternatively, Kharazi Jungle or Ape Atoll.Â
- Levels 61 to 75: Yew Logs. You need Woodworking level 60 to cut down Yew Trees, but there are some handily placed in the north garden of the Palace—just east of the Grand Exchange.Â
- Levels 76 to 90: Magic Logs. You can only cut down Magic Trees (woodworking 75) if you have a Membership, meaning you can’t harvest them if you’re FTP. If you are FTP, either buy the logs on the Grand Exchange or stick with Yew Trees.
- Levels 91 to 99: Redwood Logs. You can only find Redwood (Woodworking level 90 required) in the Woodcutting Guild, which is a Members Only guild. So, as with Magic logs, either buy them or stick with Yew.
