Roblox reached an all-time high of 202 million Monthly Active Users (MAUs) during April 2021. This estimation comes from Luke Shadwell at RTrack, an unofficial but reputable entity apart from the Roblox company.
The Roblox platform has benefited from an upward trajectory since Dec. 2019. The company ended the year at 113 million MAUs, believed to have benefited from the COVID-19 pandemic as children were forced indoors flocking to online video games for social interaction. At the end of 2020, Roblox reached 191 million MAUs.
But in March 2021, Roblox saw its first steady drop. Despite going public on the U.S. stock market and partnering with Hasbro on Nerf and Monopoly, this decline raised questions concerning the platform's sustainability. Shadwell believed the drop was expected, chalking the 7 million drop to a short term loss effected by loosening pandemic restrictions. But Shadwell also said that, "long term the prospects for Roblox to grow even further than 200 Million monthly active users seem bright."
Despite the most massive drop seen in well over a year, Roblox bounced back. The platform ended April 2021 with 202 million MAUs, an all-time high for Roblox. Of course, these figures are estimated by RTrack, a valuable tool for Roblox developers to track analytics into their games and players—the most popular of which, Adopt Me, broke the world record for most concurrent players (1,920,887) in a Roblox game during the anticipated Ocean Egg update.
What this all-time high means for the future of Roblox is unknown. The company continues to support its developers with platform-wide events like Metaverse Champions, a month-long competition created by developers. Roblox also continues partnerships with various pop. culture movie and television tie-ins, like the new Stranger Things event.
