Brotato Tier List – Best Characters

Choose your spud!

Brotato is a fun roguelite isometric survival action game that takes a more comical approach to its genre. Inspired by the famous Vampire Survivors, it shares many elements, like weaponry, skills, and characters. The latter is perhaps the most pivotal to your build, with each character's starting skillset defining your play style. But not all spuds are made equal—for example, while I like those favoring pure aggression and damage output, some require more technical build configurations.

The Best Characters in Brotato, ranked

We ranked all the best Brotato characters in this tier list according to how well they function and how reliable their builds and skillsets are. Because of the roguelite nature of this game, we know that you won't make every build work every time without flaw, but some characters can be rather finicky and unreliable in most cases; others work nearly flawlessly in most runs.

Best S Tier Characters in Brotato

Demon

Demon is the hardest character to unlock in Brotato, but once you get it, he will be worth the effort. While he can purchase items using HP may seem like a glaring drawback, he more than makes it up by converting +50 percent of all the materials gathered into Max HP. He also grants you access to Obliterator, the most powerful weapon in the game, making him my favorite character to play with.

Ghost

Ghost is another favorite of mine, with his insane dodge value of +30%, which allows him to avoid nearly one-third of all attacks that connect to him. Better yet, he can scale up to a max of 90%, making him almost unkillable. He is one truly scary spud!

Best A Tier Characters in Brotato

Knight

Knight is an excellent character for those that aren't scared of melee combat. He must ditch the ranged weapons but has boosted melee damage output and some additional armor to go with it. He can be a lot of fun to play with, bashing the aliens from up close, but I think he's lacking in survivability to be a higher-tier character.

One-Armed

If you're not a fan of combining weapons, One-Armed may be the winning bet for you. For a trade-off of having to use only one weapon at a time, he gets an incredible +200 percent boost to Attack Speed and a +100 percent increase in every damage modification. Forgoing weapon combos, you can provide some serious damage output with this character.

B Tier Characters in Brotato

Well-Rounded

Well-Rounded is a perfect character to start your game with and get up to Speed, as it offers you a jack-of-all-trades type of stats with some cool boosts to help you out even more. It has +5 to Max HP, +5 percent in Speed, and +8 in Harvesting, which are great stats for starting out. This character is a perfect mid-tier representation as it does an alright job but doesn't excel in any particular area.

Loud

Loud is a good character if you're looking for a challenge. It also works rather well with some of the best builds out there, but it has a too-niche playstyle to be put in higher tiers, in my opinion. It offers a +30% damage boost, but it also summons 50% more enemies as well. Their -3 Harvesting at the end of a wave is just too punishing.

C Tier Characters in Brotato

Old

Old is all about downscaling. If you're looking for being rather static and having all enemies come to you, Old is alright. It excels in nothing in particular, limiting your movement and enemy speed and, at the same time, only giving you a +10 boost to Harvesting, which is alright, since I think I'd sooner die of old age myself before getting enough resources while playing with this character.

King

King is a character that excels in late-game, but getting it up there requires effort. Providing +25% Damage and attack speed for every Tier IV weapon you have is great if it only wasn't for the -15% Attack Speed and Damage nerf on all Tier I weapons, making King a highly finicky character that heavily relies on luck.

D Tier Characters in Brotato

Sick

Sick is a strange, gimmicky character with good max HP and a beefy +25% lifesteal. It would work just fine if it also didn't have the -100 HP Regeneration penalty, and his Whetstone unlocks don't exactly shine on him, either. Overall, a very weak character that I don't recommend playing.

Bull

Bull is another gimmicky character that relies on specific builds; otherwise, it doesn't work at all. Its +20 Max HP, +15 Hp Regeneration, +10 Armor, and 50% increase in HP Regen modifications all look good on paper, but being able to deal damage only with your explosion ability doesn't work well in higher-level games.
