Expeditions: Rome does many historically accurate things, such as pronouncing words correctly, but it also takes a few creative liberties. The player goes through the same journey that the real Gaius Julius Caesar did. Consequently, they must take the place of Gaius Julius Caesar.
Thus, Gaius Julius Caesar must get shot with an arrow and die regardless of what you do. However, even if there were a chance, the game does not allow you to treat his body as if it were interactable, so even going to his body to bandage him won't help.

Even preparing for the ambush better won't stop the outcome, Gaius Julius Caesar will still be put into a position to die. So go ahead and read his journal, prepare with good weapons, and burn the boats recklessly in the mission prior because that won't change the outcome.
When Caesar dies, repair his weapon to create a trophy as a memorial. A schematic for repairing it will be provided to the player when visiting Gaius' family. If you're going to take someone's place in history, you might as well give his family his sword after his death.
