FFXIV – How to play as Melee DPS in Crystalline Conflict

Hyper Aggro Final Fantasy.

Melee DPS is a great playstyle since it involves using the flashiest jobs in the game. Ninjas, Dragoons and Samurai often make game-winning plays just from getting critical kills. Being flashy doesn't come easy in Crystalline Conflict, though. There are still some fundamentals that Melee DPS players will want to exercise when they go into battle.

Having high impact as a Melee DPS player in Crystalline Conflict

The most important thing for a Melee DPS player to have in their mind is target priority. Jobs like Ninja and Dragoon don't have the damage to take out tanks quickly, but they can go after healers and opposing DPS. Smart Melee DPS players will target opposing Ranged DPS early to put the fight in their favor.

When analyzing threats, a team with Black Mage will usually be the biggest problem if it can fire off damage from range. If a Ninja can use Shukuchi to get into the Black Mage's range and score a quick kill, that opposing team will lose most of their damage during the team fight.

The other big skill Melee DPS players will need to develop is knowing when to go in. No player will want to enter the middle of the fray while the enemies use all their damaging abilities. Melee DPS players need to be opportunistic, wait for the enemies to waste most or all of their MP, and then they will be free to start picking up kills.
