How to Earn Gil In Final Fantasy 14

Start earning big-time Gil with our handy guide for Final Fantasy 14

Earning Gil in Final Fantasy 14 can be bewildering. At times it can seem like you barely have enough to teleport. But with a current fad of "death roll" gambling and upcoming Ishgardian housing, most players need to earn as much Gil as possible in FFXIV.

Below are some of the best ways to earn Gil in Final Fantasy 14. These ways are geared towards beginners, so they are listed in order of how easy they are for new players to the game to achieve.

Complete the Main Story Quest!

If you do not have a fully capped level 80 character that's completed the story, then this is the number one way to get Gil early. Many low-level Warriors of Light lament a lack of Gil, especially if they're teleporting around constantly. But the easiest way to get that gold stack up is just by completing the story.

The Main Story Quests give thousands of Gil per mission. And if you happen to pick up a few side quests as well, perfect! They give Gil as well.

Make Sure You Do Weeklies & Dailies

Daily leveling roulettes offer a minimum of a few thousand Gil per run, with once-daily bonuses and an Adventurer in Need bonus available as well. Thus, you can easily farm around 50,000 Gil a day just by doing your regular dailies and more if you run multiple roulettes. Of course, you should be doing your dailies anyway, but the monetary reward makes them a must-do.

Weeklies are the other way. The Challenge Log, unlocked from a quest in the Upper Decks of Limsa Lominsa, gives you weekly goals to shoot for. Most of these also have other bonuses, such as MGP or experience points. But each one has a minimum of 1000 Gil as a reward, all the way up to 10,000 Gil for some of the harder ones. Many of these are designed to be achieved just by normally playing the game, so it's not too much of a stretch!

Use Your Other Currencies

Press Ctrl+C to open the currency tab—everything you see here can be turned into Gil in one way or another. Company Seals can be exchanged for crafting materials and other goodies that you can sell for Gil. Ventures are how you send retainers on missions to grab you more items… for Gil, of course.

Under the "Battle" section are some of the most overlooked ways you can earn money. Your Tomestones are essential in making Gil. Allagan Tomestones of Poetics should be traded for Unidentified Ores at Idyllshire. These can then be exchanged for Soil which sells for good money on the Marketplace.

The two current tiers of Tomestones (in this case, Allagan Tomestones of Allegory and Allagan Tomestones of Revelation) can be traded for crafting materials in Eulmore. These are basic materials for current best-in-slot crafted gear and will sell handsomely on the market board.

Learn to Craft and Gather

Crafting and Gathering are both huge earners of Gil. Not only does it give you access to the raw materials and items which you can sell on the Marketplace, but it also gives you access to the Ishgardian Restoration.

The current Ishgardian Restoration Event is a money-making machine. You can sell your gathered materials or focus on gathering Skybuilders Scrips for minions and items to sell. You can also use your crafters and gathers to grind Company Seals, which, as we previously mentioned, are usable to buy items for sale.

Optimize Your Retainers

Your retainers not only sell items, but can gather them. Make sure you're using them the right way. It's best to have one combat class retainer and one gatherer. Set the gatherer to gather either materials which are always valuable (Items like Spruce Logs or Darksteel Ore are more challenging to gather by hand than by retainer, so these make good choices) or focus on top tier level 80 materials to sell to crafters!

Make sure your crafters are constantly gathering. Check back every hour or so to maximize your farming efforts.

Doman Enclave Restoration

One of the hidden ways to make money in the game is the Doman Enclave Restoration. Once unlocked by following a quest chain in Mor Dhona, the Doman Enclave allows you to trade any junk items you have for sweet, sweet Gil. In addition, the junk items will be sold at an improved value, ranging from 125%-200%. This means your junk won't just go for a pittance; you can make real money this way!

It's capped at a certain amount per week, but this ranges from 10,000-40,000, so you shouldn't hit it unless you're really trying.

Join the Housing Crafting Market!

Once you've got a house in FFXIV, you'll know that the expenses don't stop there. They only increase! Houses mean furniture, and furnishings cost Gil. But that's just another way you can make some money. Selling furnishings, crafting your own to sell, or just finding the common materials and selling them can make you Gil hand-over-fist!
