Genshin Impact's voice actors (VAs) bring life to the game's massive cast of characters. But like celebrities, their every action is scrutinized by the public—and any form of misconduct is naturally not tolerated. Elliot Gindi, Tighnari's English VA, was recently placed under the spotlight when sexual abuse allegations were pitted against him, primarily by minors. The victims came forward by reporting their experiences to moderators of Gindi's Discord channel, and testimonies have since been compiled in a site by Twitter user @FretCore.
The allegations include screenshots of Elliot Gindi preying on minors, threatening them with self-harm and suicide if word of his misconduct were to come to light. He has since posted an apology on Twitter, admitting to engaging with underage individuals with what he describes as "cringy sex talk."
However, after his apology was posted, the internet was quick to find what is allegedly his burner account, which he continued using to target minors and other victims. He also reportedly used his co-workers' names to lure fans into his trap—one being Alejandro Saab, Cyno's VA, who has no involvement whatsoever in Gindi's misbehavior. The Genshin Impact community has since shunned Elliot Gindi for his actions, which include grooming and sexually harassing people as young as 12.
In response to the traumatic incident, HoYoverse released an official statement confirming that Elliot Gindi has been removed from his role as Tighnari due to a breach of contract. Genshin Impact will move forward with re-casting Sumeru's Forest Watcher's English voice and will re-record his lines over time. This isn't the first major scandal to shake Genshin's voice-acting community. In 2021, Oz's Chinese VA, Li Yuantao, was removed from his role after evidence of committing adultery surfaced.
