How to complete Reunion in God of War Ragnarök

Time to clean up this mess.

In God of War Ragnarök, after playing as Atreus in Helheim and making the mistake of a lifetime, you will be required to use both Kratos and Atreus again to do something about the Hel you just unleashed. Once you've started down this questline, there is no going back until you've finished. You might need help to power through, so you can get back to exploring the rest of the nine realms at your leisure. We've got you covered. Here's how to complete Reunion in God of War Ragnarök.

How to complete Reunion through Helheim in God of War Ragnarök

Your mission in Helheim is to stop Garm, the Hound of Hel that Atreus unleashed in his last task for Odin, before he tears the reality of the nine realms apart. The way you will take is fairly straight forward, with few detours available. Be on the lookout for areas where you will need to use your new Draupnir Spear to open up a path. Any climbing you'll need to do should be marked with yellow paint.

One of the first puzzles you'll need to solve to progress is breaking up this ice block pictured above. The trick is to climb up to the platform across from it so you have a clear view of the yellow breaking point in the center. Lodge a Draupnir spear in each breaking point, then use Triangle to detonate all three at once to continue on.

How to open the first gate in Helheim

The most challenging puzzles in Helheim are gates that will require you to freeze a gear to be able to walk through. All of them will require the use of Sigil Arrows and your Leviathan Axe to solve. To freeze the gear of the first gate, place a sigil on each of the three circles above the gate to create a chain that leads to the gear. Then, lift the gate using the wooden wheel. While still holding the wooden gear, use your Leviathan Axe by pressing and holding L2 to aim. Then press R1 to throw your axe at the leftmost sigil. This will freeze the gear while the gate is up so you can walk through.

The second gate, which you'll find right after reaching the Shipyard of the Fallen, is very similar to the first gate. This time you'll need to chain sigil marks on the wooden stick without any circles to guide you. Look at the photo above to see how we spaced our sigil chain. Once your chain is made, open the gate but do not leave the wooden wheel. Throw your axe at the top most sigil to freeze the gear in place, then walk through the second gate.

Your next puzzling obstacle will be Garm's chain. Atreus wants you to try and get it secured so he can calm the hellish hound. To do so, you'll need to freeze and grab Garm's chain. Aim your Leviathan Axe (by pressing and holding L2) at the end of the chain to your left as pictured above. Then press R1 to throw your Axe and freeze it. You'll then need to walk up to the chain links to the right of what you just froze and press O to interact with and pull on the chain. It won't work, unfortunately, but it will open a path forward. Don't worry. It won't be long before you'll fight Garm in a boss fight, in which you'll use the same method to freeze his chain to your advantage.

After you've defeated Garm in the Silent Clearing, you'll quickly come up to a third locked gate. Don't forget to collect the Onslaught Shield from the Legendary Chest nearby before you go through! To open this gate, you'll need to do a bit of maneuvering. Before you move the wooden wheel, start by placing a sigil on the bottom of the right, gray stone that's exposed by the golden window in front of you.

Next, turn the wheel all the way up, and, without letting go of the wheel, press and hold L2 to aim, then press Square to place another sigil on the exposed portion of the left gray stone. Turn the wooden wheel backwards half way so the two sigils are in line with the gear, then place a final sigil on the exposed portion of the left gray stone. You should have a chain that looks like the picture above. Throw your Axe at the bottom sigil to freeze the gear and walk through. After that, you'll be running from a revived Garm through the second and third phase of his boss fight.

To open up the last gate is a bit simpler than the third. Jump down to the platform on your left where the wooden wheel is. Before you turn anything, start by placing a sigil on the exposed circle on the gear panel in front of you. Then, turn the wheel so the gate is halfway open and, without leaving the wheel, place another sigil on the exposed circle. Finally, turn the wheel so the gate is fully raised and throw your Axe at the exposed sigil to freeze the gear.

With Garm taken care of, you'll have a short walk back to the Mystic Gateway. Watch a few more touching cutscenes as Kratos and Atreus reconnect and you'll be finished with this part of The Path.
