With Horizon Forbidden West launching on PS4 and PS5, fans of Guerrilla Games can finally continue Aloy's story started in 2017's Horizon Zero Dawn. With two different versions of the latest Horizon title release, players may wonder if they'll be able to upgrade from the PS4 version of the game free of charge.
Horizon Forbidden West does offer free next-gen upgrades to those who purchase the PS4 version of the game. Whether the purchase is digital or physical is irrelevant, as Jim Ryan, the President, and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, promised players could upgrade at no additional cost.
Those looking to save some money on Horizon Forbidden West with a PS5 can purchase the PS4 version of the game for $59.99 and upgrade to save $10, as the PS5 version of Horizon is $69.99. While Horizon Forbidden West offers a free next-gen upgrade, future cross-generation titles won't provide the same benefits.
Gran Turismo 7, for example, requires players to purchase the 25th Anniversary Edition of the game to gain access to both the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game at an increased price of $89.99.
