Tallnecks in Horizon Forbidden West are map-revealing machines. To climb them, players will have to complete puzzles and objectives and then override the machine from its head platform. Doing this will unlock visibility for a large section of the map. Completing Tallnecks is very useful, especially in the early game though some of them are locked until certain quests are completed, or tools are obtained.
The 'Stand of the Sentinels' Tallneck is similar to other Tallnecks in Horizon Forbidden West. Players will have to solve exploration and traversal puzzles to make their way to the top of the Tallneck and override it. Players will need to complete the main story mission where players first meet Alva before attempting this Tallneck as it will be locked before this.
This Tallneck will require players to find their way through a tree-house village, making their way higher and higher until they are able to reach the top of the Tallneck. Finding the correct places to jump can be difficult here, but the Tallneck can be completed by following the steps below:
- Make your way to the center of the Tallneck area. This is where the initial jump off point will be. Players can enter the tree-house village from here and progress through the rest of the Tallneck. When arriving in the area, players will encounter a few machines, notably Stalkers, and it is a good idea to take these out before continuing through the puzzle as they can cause issues for players later on.
- When you have jumped onto the first center platform, be sure to kick down the ladder on this platform for easy access later on. Jump from the center platform to the next platform.
- From this second platform, players will be able to jump onto the first level of the Tallneck. This will not be high enough to reach its override, but players can use these grab points to reach higher points on the platforms. Jump on the Tallneck's grab point and ride it to the next platform slightly higher than the last.
- Cross the ropes on this platform and get to the next one. Remember to drop the ladders when reaching new platforms just in case you fall and need to return to the platform.
- Turning right, players should see a grapple point that they can use to reach the next section of the village. There will be a few Clamberjaws on the multi-storied platforms. Be sure to take them out before continuing.
- After defeating the machines, look for a ladder held up by a red clamp. Shooting this clamp will lower the ladder enough for players to jump on.
- Continuing through the platforms, players should encounter a grapple point that they can use to get to a new section of the village. This traversal will repeat until players reach the platform shown in the pictures below. From there, they can reach the Tallneck's head and override the machine, revealing a large portion of the game's western map.
Where do you enter the tree village?
You can most easily enter the tree village from the center of the Tallneck's walking circle. The location is shown in the images above.
