Sega is set to release new games, remakes, and remasters over the years, reports suggest

Is Sega getting its groove back?

The VGC reports that Sega has shared a presentation that shows the results for the company for the fiscal year ending with March 2022. With the presentation, Sega has revealed that it intends to "significant[ly] increase [the amount of] new titles," which includes an increase in remakes and remasters.

This decision was made due to the strong sales of Sega games on consoles and PC. Among the games that sold exceptionally well in the fiscal year that ended with March 2022 are Sonic Colors Ultimate, Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania, and Lost Judgment. Altogether, those game games sold approximately 4 million copies. All those games are considered to be “remake / remaster, spin-off [or] change of theme” by Sega, which explains why the company would want to release more remakes in the following fiscal year.

Remakes and other video game titles sold altogether around 6 million copies in the most recent fiscal year. Sega forecasts that the number of sales will double from 6 to 13 million copies in the next year. Sega is making that prediction because the company plans to dramatically increase the number of new titles. The company plans to release 13 new titles globally in the next year.

Upcoming Sega games include the highly anticipated Sonic Origins video game, which is set to launch on June 23, 2022. Origins is a follow-up to the highly successful Sonic Mania video game. There are also reports that Sega is working on big-budget reboots for Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio, which are likely two remakes that Sega was referring to in its presentation. Though, based on reports, Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio are still early in development and won't likely release by March 2023.
