Where should I play Octopath Traveler 2? Switch vs PS5 vs PC

Where will you travel?

Unlike the original Octopath Traveler, Octopath Traveler 2 was released on day one on multiple platforms and not just the Switch. While nostalgia may win out in the end, you can play the sequel somewhere besides the Nintendo Switch. This may leave you wondering whether you should play Octopath Traveler 2 on Switch, PlayStation, or PC.

Should I play Octopath Traveler 2 on Switch, PS5, or PC?

Ultimately, the answer depends on what you prioritize. Each platform runs the game fine, so performance is not an issue. However, the graphics will vary between each version. Here are the perks of each version of Octopath Traveler 2.

The Switch version offers portability and, unlike the first Octopath Traveler, allows you to record clips while playing. It does have reduced graphics, so if you prefer fancy graphics, this version may not be for you. The main appeal of the Nintendo Switch version is easily being able to play it docked or take it on the go.

The PS5 version, and to a lesser extent, the PS4 version, offer a more graphically enhanced experience. Octopath Traveler 2 has a better frame rate and graphics, and has fantastic DualSense integration. You do sacrifice portability, so make sure you consider this if you go with the PlayStation version. While the PS4 version still holds up well, it does perform slightly worse than the PS5 and does not have the DualSense support.

Finally, the PC version seemingly combines the best of both worlds. While the PC version is fine, fans will likely prefer to play it on Steam Deck. This offers portability, the ability to play docked, fantastic graphics and frames, and possibly mods. This makes it possibly the best place to play Octopath Traveler 2.
