Pocketpair shows off 17 new Pals in Pal Reveal Trailer

This looks familiar.

In a new trailer created for the INDIE Live Expo Winter 2022, Pocketpair showed off Jetragon, Lyleen, Cattiva, and 14 other new 'Pals' to be included in their upcoming game, Palworld. The Pal Reveal Trailer not only introduces us to these new monsters, but also shows that Palworld, an apparent answer to Pokémon fans' dreams of a more mature title, may have distinct similarities to the ever popular series, such as an elemental based typing system and an index. However, the last half of the trailer seems to want to set it self apart from Nintendo's darling. It shows off more gunplay, tanks, and Pals packed into cages.

While Pokémon Scarlet and Violet was a commercial success, its fans were notably disappointed by its many bugs and performance issues. Palworld seems to not only be a darker spin on the monster collecting title, but a beautifully crafted spin as well. Players should be able to find at least 96 monsters in the game, if our presumption of a distinct numbering system with the newly introduced Pals does mean there's some form of an index. Newly introduced Pals also had associated symbols that were strikingly similar to Elemental-Typing symbols featured in the Pokémon series. Though, an elemental system will likely play out slightly differently, as Palworld will feature third-person shooter gameplay.

Other than the 17 officially introduced pals, when watched closely you can spot at least two other new monsters in this gameplay clip from the trailer. The player character is using a Pal named Foxparks as a flamethrower. It's aimed at a level one Dinossum, a monster that looks very similar to the officially revealed Broncherry. Given Palworld's other features similar to the Pokémon series, this may mean that evolution chains could be a feature of Palworld as well.

Palworld is set to be released on Steam and currently has a loose release time frame of some time in 2023.
